REPORTS PARIS (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has declined the invitation of US President Donald Trump to a possible G7 summit in the United United, reports Politico on Friday.

"The Chancellor thanks President Trump for this invitation to the G7 summit scheduled for the end of June in Washington. Today, taking into account the global pandemic, she cannot commit to making a trip to Washington" said the report, citing German government spokesman Steffen Seibert.

"She will of course continue to assess the progress of the pandemic".

Trump says there would be "no better example of the reopening" than holding a G7 summit in the United States in late June, the White House said Tuesday.
