Federal budget 2021: The next government alliance has to fix it

Federal budget 2021: The next government alliance has to fix it © dpa Where will savings be made in the future? And what money spent on? The Bundestag will not have heated discussions about this until the coming year. The government deficit is huge due to the corona. The 2021 election campaign will also be decided by who will find the best answer. In any case, the old promises no longer bear fruit. The next government alliance has to fix it. The federal cabinet approved the budget for the coming year this Wednesday.

Ex-FDP general secretary Linda Teuteberg is said to have shown interest in a post in the presidium shortly before her replacement, according to SPIEGEL. But the decision was different.

The FDP politician Linda Teuteberg is said to have tried in vain to exchange her post as general secretary for a place in the presidium of the Liberals. This was confirmed to SPIEGEL by several members of the presidium and the federal executive committee.

After Teuteberg had rejected FDP party leader Christian Lindner's offer several times since the summer to get a place in the presidium as a kind of representative for East Germany instead of the post of general secretary, it should have turned a few weeks before the party congress. But by then it was too late, the personnel decisions had already been made.

CDU: "The last year was a bad one"

CDU: © dpa Polite applause: Almost 68 percent of the members speak out in favor of Christian Hirte at the CDU state party conference in Erfurt. Christian Hirte is to renew Thuringia's CDU. The new chairman doesn’t get carried away, but shows the confidence that the state party urgently needs. "The last year was a bad one" Christian Hirte grew a beard. Politicians sometimes do that when they want to show that they have matured in times of media abstinence, perhaps even refined.

The background to this back and forth is Lindner's decision to replace Teuteberg prematurely as Secretary General after 15 months and to install the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Economic Affairs, Volker Wissing, in her place. Lindner was dissatisfied with Teuteberg's administration - a view that many in the party share, even if only behind closed doors. With Wissing, the party leader wanted a gripping General Secretary and a voice that would occupy a central issue of the FDP in the Corona times with economic and financial expertise in the coming federal election campaign.

Although the change of staff at the party congress last weekend was successful - even if Lindner's farewell speech at Teuteberg was unsuccessful and brought him the accusation of "man's joke" and criticism from his own ranks . According to SPIEGEL information, the circumstances that led to the premature replacement of Teuteberg were more complex than previously known.

FDP misery: Christian Lindner is not to blame for everything

So Teuteberg is said to have tried in vain a few weeks before the party congress to get a place in the party presidium by replacing her as general secretary. She had previously refused the presidential post offered by Lindner several times, including on the day her successor Wissing was introduced on August 17 in Berlin.

Shortly before the East German state associations of the FDP met at the beginning of September to discuss a successor for Frank Sitta, who was leaving the presidium, Teuteberg suddenly reported, according to party insiders, and announced that she was now interested but for a position in the presidium. But the East German state associations instead opted for Lydia Hüskens, designated top candidate of the Saxony-Anhalt FDP for the state election in 2021.

In a written question, SPIEGEL confronted Teuteberg with reports from the party that in the end she was interested in a seat again Bureau shown. "I can definitely not confirm the representation," wrote the member of the Bundestag back. In the group of East German state chairmen, she supported the candidacy of Lydia Hüskens. I am not concerned with the "speculations and rumors about processes and internal discussions of the last few weeks". You look ahead and concentrate on the important work for the FDP, including migration policy. Teuteberg has been the migration policy spokeswoman for her parliamentary group since 2017.
