How the pandemic will develop is now in our hands, says the World Health Organization - and at the same time gives a clear warning.
"The September figures should be an alarm signal for us all," said the European Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Hans Kluge. He calculated that the weekly infection numbers on the continent have now exceeded the values of the first high phase in March. "Where the pandemic develops from here is in our hands," said Kluge.
Effective measures such as comprehensive tests, washing your hands, keeping your distance and wearing mouth and nose protection should be maintained as a matter of urgency - and larger crowds should also be avoided. However, you also have to take people's needs seriously and respond to increasing corona fatigue.

"14-day rule still applies"
The WHO warned against abandoning the current isolation rules. "Our recommendation of 14 days of quarantine is based on our understanding of the incubation period and disease transmission," said Crisis Coordinator Catherine Smallwood. The EU health ministers agreed two weeks ago to shorten the quarantine for travelers from risk areas and called a minimum duration of just ten days.
In Europe, which includes 53 countries including Russia, almost five million corona cases have been registered so far. More than 227,000 people died from or with the virus. Between 40,000 and 50,000 new infections are registered every day. Last Friday, the number was even 54,000 cases. This is by no means only due to the fact that tests are carried out more frequently, said the World Health Organization, which is a coordinating authority of the United Nations. Covid-19: the virus is still circulating just as intensely in France
© Provided by La Tribune The number of new hospitalizations over the last seven days amounted to 3,894 in France against 3,853 on Saturday. France reported on Sunday 10,569 new coronavirus contaminations in 24 hours, or 453,763 cases since the start of the epidemic, show figures published by Public Health France. As of Saturday, new infections stood at 13,498, marking a daily record.
In Germany, the number of new infections reached the highest daily value since April. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the health authorities reported 2194 cases. The high point so far was more than 6000 at the turn of the month from March to April. While the proportion of those returning from the Corona virus is declining, there are numerous smaller outbreaks nationwide that can be traced back to celebrations in family and friends, according to the RKI. Fewer and fewer people are currently dying of COVID-19, because young people in particular are newly infected, and the process is usually less severe.
Due to the latest developments in Munich, the new Bundesliga season will start with an opening game without spectators. The match between FC Bayern and Schalke 04 will take place in front of empty stands, as the Bavarian capital decided with reference to the RKI figures.Pubs have to close earlier.
Politicians in other countries are also drawing conclusions from the current corona statistics. Austria limits the number of participants at private gatherings. In closed rooms, the limit is ten people from Monday. The UK has strict nightlife rules from Friday. In the north-east of England, pubs in the Newcastle and Sunderland region are only allowed to open until 10 p.m. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said new restrictions were "the only way for the country to enjoy Christmas".
