COUNTRY DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran on Saturday extended restrictions and closures in the capital Tehran for a third week, as the death toll from COVID-19 has passed 30,000 in the country, the hardest hit by the coronavirus in the Middle East.
Schools, mosques, shops, restaurants and other public institutions in Tehran, where the infection rate is the highest, have been closed since October 3.
According to state media, the governor of Tehran province, Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpey, announced an extension of the measures until at least Friday.
Health ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari told state television on Saturday that 253 deaths and 4,103 new cases had been identified in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 30.123.
