Ban on accommodation, curfew, mask requirement: Why the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants says little The expectations were already screwed into the immeasurable beforehand: Today's meeting of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) with the Prime Minister of the federal states is of "historical dimension" , said Chancellor Helge Braun on Tuesday. The top politicians meet in Berlin at 2 p.m. and then want to personally advise for the first time on how they can get the dramatically worsened corona situation under control again in the next few weeks.

Former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has been given permanent residency in Russia , his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena told state-run news agency RIA Novosti.

Snowden was able to obtain permanent residency rights because of the changes in Russia 's immigration laws made in 2019, the lawyer said. Kucherena added that Snowden is not considering applying for Russian citizenship at the moment. Snowden , who has kept a low profile in Russia and

Edward Snowden is still talking about him. Seven years after arriving in Russia, he has just obtained permanent resident status. This is the last step before obtaining Russian citizenship, but for now, he does not want to go that far.

Edward Snowden's dream is to return to the United States, but on one condition: that he can be guaranteed a fair trial. He considers that these conditions are currently not met.

Before his arrival at the White House, Donald Trump wanted to have Edward Snowden executed and still spoke of him as an “absolute traitor” who should be condemned as harshly as possible during the 2016 presidential campaign. But the American president, in the month of August this year, said it was ready to take a look at its requests for pardon.

reach: Whistleblower Edward Snowden granted permanent residency in Russia . Snowden has been living in exile in Russia since 2013 when he blew the lid off unprecedented prison if convicted but his extradition is unlikely any time soon, especially given his newly-minted residency status .

Unclear statements and a grace that is far from certain for Edward Snowden, who is under no illusions. It recognizes at most a beginning of normalization with the American administration. Meanwhile, he still lives in an undisclosed location in Moscow, which he describes as a beautiful city. He continues to be very active on Twitter where he campaigns in favor of civil liberties and published his memoirs last year in a book with 70,000 copies in France.

And when American elected officials accuse him of now working for the Russian intelligence services, he denies and does not hesitate to criticize Vladimir Poutine. In Russia as elsewhere, he said, it will never be the people the problem, but always the government.
