But is it really? Times have changed, and Biden has opinion on his side. The most exasperating, for four years, is to see Donald Trump and the political world be subjected to different standards.

On the eve of the election, the outgoing president lags behind his Democratic rival in the national polls but the race remains too close in the "tip-over" states, the only ones able to tip the scales to one side or the other, so that the ballot appears to have been decided in advance.

Donald Trump, 74, is increasing the number of meetings to try and ultimately win the majority of 270 voters in the Electoral College necessary to win (out of 538 delegates).

In the event of defeat, he would be the first outgoing president not to be reelected for a second term since George HW Bush, defeated by Bill Clinton in 1992.

Monday, Donald Trump was to have five meetings in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and in Wisconsin and Michigan, four states where he won against Hillary Clinton in 2016 but where his opponent has a good chance of winning this time around, according to polls.

Joe Biden will focus on Pennsylvania and Ohio.

95 MILLION VOTES PER ANTICIPATION

In a year marked by the coronavirus pandemic, advance polls have reached an all-time high, as 95 million Americans have already made their choice, either in person or by mail, according to the US Elections Project group based at the University of Florida, which represents about 40% of the electorate.

And in exactly 77 days, a Biden government will join him, ”he tweeted.

This unprecedented level of early voting means counting could take days or even weeks in some states and the name of the poll winner may not be known when the polls close on Tuesday night.

The two camps are already mobilizing armies of lawyers for post-electoral disputes.

Donald Trump reiterated without proof that postal voting is subject to fraud, although experts point out that voter fraud is rare in the United States.

Twitter warned Monday that it would attach a warning to messages from candidates claiming victory in a state before formalization by election officials or the national press.

Another sign of the latent tension, buildings in several cities have barricaded themselves in anticipation of D-Day. This is the case, for example, of several blocks around the White House or the Macy's department store in New York.

The FBI is concurrently investigating an incident in Texas on Friday in which a convoy of vehicles of Trump supporters surrounded a bus carrying members of Biden's campaign team, prompting them to cancel two events .

Donald Trump posted a video of the incident on Twitter on Saturday, writing: "I love Texas!" After the FBI announced on Sunday the opening of an investigation, the Republican president criticized this move. “These patriots haven't done anything wrong,” he tweeted of his supporters.

Eight state prosecutors (North Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) warned Monday that they would not tolerate any intimidation.

Donald Trump will end his campaign with a final rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he ended his previous campaign in 2016.

His third candidacy will therefore have been the correct one.

Biden will meet with unions and the African American community in the Pittsburgh area before an evening rally with singer Lady Gaga.

The Democratic candidate will also make a detour to Ohio, a state won in 2016 by Donald Trump, but where the two candidates are now neck and neck in the polls.

Former President Barack Obama will be on his side in Atlanta, Georgia, before ending his campaign in Miami.

Joe Biden has focused most of his campaign on Donald Trump's disastrous management of the coronavirus pandemic. The Covid-19 has killed more than 230,000 people in the United States and polls show that Americans trust the former vice-president of Barack Obama to manage this epidemic more than the tenant of the White House.

The outgoing president says he still believes in his lucky star. He promises Americans an economic stimulus plan and the imminent arrival of a vaccine against Covid-19.

Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said he expected the first doses of a possible vaccine to be available in late December or early January for those at risk. On Monday, Donald Trump hinted that he could fire the epidemiologist after the election.
