Jessica Rosenthal is the candidate to succeed Kevin Kühnert at the head of the Jusos - and demands more courage from SPD “We must no longer fail because of our own despondency. I want a courageous SPD that stands by its convictions, that is a powerful lobby for people who otherwise far too often have no voice, "said the 28-year-old at the Federal Congress of Young Socialists.

The Jusos longed for change - but that doesn't come by itself. "Let's fight for a better, fairer, more ecological, anti-fascist, feminist and internationalist future," said Rosenthal. "Because we make the future ourselves, with courage, with will, with a clear head and sometimes with a raised middle finger."

Rosenthal also called for the introduction of a job guarantee. Work is more than making money, it also creates meaning. Full employment is the goal, said the young socialist. At the same time, there must be a state guarantee for a training place. "People have a right to complete an apprenticeship and thus to lay the foundation for their working life," said Rosenthal.

The SPD had the opportunity to push the Union into the opposition. "We have the chance to show young people what an SPD can be like when it is not caught in the shackles of a grand coalition."

Tearful farewell to Kevin Kühnert

The outgoing Juso boss Kühnert called on the Jusos in his farewell speech to keep on their left-wing course . The corona crisis had shown that many things could be implemented that the Jusos would have called for for a long time - such as the suspension of the debt brake, massive government investments and job guarantees.

When he left, Kühnert presented himself as unusually emotional. "That may be a bit strange for people watching now - why is he crying now?" He said in a tear-choked voice. Kühnert said he had "done a heavy workload in recent years" and always received the unconditional support of the Jusos. It was "a lot of fun" for him.
