A journalist who worked for the official Tigray television station, Tigray TV, was shot dead in Mekele, the capital of this region in northern Ethiopia, the scene of a recent armed conflict with the federal government, relatives told AFP on Thursday.

The precise human toll of the conflict in Tigray is unknown, but the fighting has pushed tens of thousands of people to seek refuge in neighboring Sudan.
