US President Donald Trump was indicted in Congress on Wednesday, January 13, a second historic “impeachment” a week before the end of his mandate, which ends in confusion and in a climate of extreme tension. The Democrat-dominated House of Representatives voted in favor of impeachment by 232 votes to 197.

This would give impeachment managers and Mr. Trump’s defense at least a week to prepare. It’s not yet clear what date in February McConnell is proposing. He had already said he would not take up a trial immediately after the House impeached Mr. Trump, and Democrats now control the Senate.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell requested the timeline after Democrats earlier in the day said that the House of Representatives could send the impeachment charge - passed last week in response to the deadly storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters - to the Senate as early as Friday.

Donald Trump was indicted by the House of Representatives for "inciting insurgency" following the attack on Capitol Hill by his supporters on January 6. This is the first time that an American president has faced two impeachment procedures.

The request was made by Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell after Democrats said today that the House could formally forward the indictment to the Senate as early as Friday.
