More and more business — from online banking to ecommerce — is being conducted online. Businesses had to make an abrupt shift from most employees working in an office to working from home. In the rush to continue with business as usual, many had to take some shortcuts with security. The FBI said its Internet Crime Complaint Center has seen "a significant increase in the number of complaints filed," though only a fraction has been directly related to the coronavirus.

It is on the Internet that serious crime now deploys its networks. All over the world, attacks are increasing. Hackers storm servers, block and encrypt data, then demand a ransom, most often in cryptocurrency. No country is spared. In the United States, big names in IT, as well as federal agencies, have been targeted . The European Medicines Agency has come under attack on documents relating to coronavirus vaccines.

Since France led the way more than 20 years ago, international playbooks for disaster response increasingly call for this two-tent approach: one for the wounded and one to treat the invisible, psychological wounds of trauma. Low mood and irritability specifically stand out as being very common, the study notes. In China, these expected mental health effects are already being reported in the first research papers about the lockdown. In cases where parents were quarantined with children, the mental health toll became even steeper.

France 's National Assembly passed a controversial bill on Tuesday aimed at curbing the rise of Islamism. The so-called anti separatism bill strengthens the state's oversight of mosques, schools and sports clubs. It also includes tough new measures against online apologists for acts of violence and cracks down on practices like forced marriage and virginity testing. The bill was brought forward The tragedy (Islamist killing of teacher Samuel Paty) has made it an urgent moral necessity. A number of attacks quadrupled in one year

It is very urgent, as two hospitals have just seen. On Monday February 15, the Villefranche-sur-Saône hospital group announced that it was the victim of a major computer attack affecting the sites of Villefranche, Tarare and Trévoux (Ouest France on February 17). All surgeries scheduled for the next day had to be deprogrammed. Last week, the hospital in Dax (Landes) was also paralyzed in the same way. In both cases, the cybercrime section of the Paris prosecutor's office took up the investigation.

The number of attacks has quadrupled in the past year , observes the French Information Systems Security Agency (Anssi). To respond, France wants to strengthen its defense system by devoting an additional billion euros to it.

Clearly, 2020 has been unlike any previous year in the last century or so. The world is currently battling against an infodemic of propaganda spewing from the corporate media and official health authorities. Regardless, nations around the world are using COVID-19 as an opportunity to grab more surveillance and police state powers, institute mask and vaccine mandates, accelerate the push towards a completely digital world, enact more corporate bailouts, and generally, extreme control and involvement in citizens lives.

French ecosystem

To create a French cybersecurity ecosystem, around sixty companies in this sector will come together in a cybercampus in Paris in the La Défense district.

France is also still too dependent on foreign actors to respond to these attacks: between 30 and 40% estimates the Élysée. It is also an issue of economic development. This sector, which currently employs 37,000 people, has grown by 10% every year for the past five years. France estimates that the workforce could double and the turnover could increase from 7 billion euros in 2019 to 25 billion euros in 2025. This requires the emergence of French unicorns, these companies which make more than a billion euros in turnover. The goal is to have three ", said the Élysée.

Funding will be based on the Future Investment Programs (PIA) and the recovery plan. The whole of the French economy, administrations, but also individuals are now called upon to be trained but also to exercise vigilance. An official victim assistance site ( cybermalveillance.gouv.fr) lists the advice and procedures to follow.
