US News Ballard Power with a new milestone: cooperation on fuel cells for transport ships

The expansion of a fourth mobile network in Germany can begin: 1 & 1 Drillisch has accepted an contract offer from its competitor Telefónica for national roaming, the company announced on Monday. The final details of the contract should be clarified by May, but the agreement is already binding.
At the beginning of February Ballard Power announced that it had signed a non-binding letter of intent with the Australian company Global Energy Ventures to work together on a new ship with fuel cell propulsion.

Ballard and GEV are planning the C-H2 ship
The hydrogen transport ship, known as the C-H2 ship, requires an output of less than 10 megawatts on a smaller scale, explains Ballard Power in its press release. In its original size, the C-H2 ship will then have a drive power requirement of around 26 megawatts and a system for storing 2,000 tons of compressed green hydrogen.

While Global Energy Ventures will be responsible for designing, developing, financing and operating the ship as well as integrating the required power system, Ballard Power will be responsible for the design of the fuel cell system for the ship and Global Energy Ventures will be responsible for the Support integration of the fuel cell system in the ship design. This fuel cell system is based on Ballard Powers FCwave technology. The FCwave system gets its hydrogen fuel from the compressed green hydrogen, which is stored and transported on board the ship.

Decarbonisation of shipping
For Ballard Power, the cooperation could become an important reference project, on the one hand because shipping is one of the most important target markets for fuel cell technology, as it is still mainly based on fossil fuels and is therefore coming under increasing pressure, and on the other hand, because the demand for hydrogen is increasing - Ballard could make use of both with the fuel cell ship, which itself uses compressed green hydrogen and transports it.
