At the beginning of February Ballard Power announced that it had signed a non-binding letter of intent with the Australian company Global Energy Ventures to work together on a new ship with fuel cell propulsion.

Ballard and GEV are planning the C-H2 ship

The hydrogen transport ship, known as the C-H2 ship, requires an output of less than 10 megawatts on a smaller scale, explains Ballard Power in its press release. In its original size, the C-H2 ship will then have a drive power requirement of around 26 megawatts and a system for storing 2,000 tons of compressed green hydrogen.

This fuel cell system is based on Ballard Powers FCwave technology. The FCwave system gets its hydrogen fuel from the compressed green hydrogen, which is stored and transported on board the ship.
