In Greece, the tourist season officially starts this weekend of May 15th. While waiting for the expected arrival of holidaymakers, life outdoors gradually resumes its rights with the reopening of the terraces of cafes and restaurants, after six months of closure imposed by the sanitary measures related to Covid-19.

© Christophe Archambault / AFP has a few hours from the reopening of restaurants, the wooden wallets flock under the requests. In a Vosges company, employees produce each day between 600 and 800 m2 of terraces. Never seen for the seven factory employees.

The second step of deconformation is about to be crossed. From this Thursday, the bars and restaurants will be able to reopen their terraces and welcome customers, following strict sanitary rules. To help professionals, several cities in France have taken steps to allow the expansion of terraces, in parking spaces in particular.

Faced with the demand of coffee cafeters and restaurateurs, wooden dealers and terraces manufacturers struggle to keep pace. In Gérardmer in the Vosges, the seven employees of "Vosges Thermo Wood" hold the pace. The company, which produces wooden planks for terraces, sends each day between 600 and 800 m2 of terraces to manufacturers. "It's been eleven years I'm here, I have never done this rhythm", entrusts an employee from the company to the microphone of Europe 1.

"Terrace controls, since February, we had to do a hundred," says Sabrina, who manages the teams. To make a wooden terrace, the company processes the wood to withstand the assaults of time, moisture, fungi, insects but also alcohol.

to get there, the wood is heated in a huge oven: "It works like a boiler. We have three huge burners coupled with a ventilation that brelabs the air to mount everything up to 237 degrees," explains Charles, who Works in society. No miracle on the other hand for the latecomers who, in the face of the request, will now have to wait six to eight weeks before getting their wooden terrace.
