l Former Italian Minister Matteo Salvini is judged from Saturday in Palermo, Sicily, for blocking migrants at sea.

The facts took place in August 2019, while he was Minister of the Interior. For six days, Matteo Salvini had blocked an Open ARMS NGO ship housing 147 migrants. This October 23 opens the trial of the far-right leader who will have to respond to the justice of accusations of sequestration of people and abuse of power.

The NGO boat that wet off the island of Lampedusa had asked for a safer port for the ship. It is the worsening of the health situation aboard the boat that had finally allowed migrants to disembark. Sicilian justice had indeed issued a landing order after finding the living conditions inside the overcrowded boat.

A business that had made great noise and indirectly involved Richard Gere. So on vacation in Tuscany, the American actor had joined Sicily to help bring food and other property on the ship.
