Djakarta, 4 December (Reuters) - Russia and the Association of Nations From Southeast Asia (ASEAN) have proceeded to their first joint naval exercises in history, in the territorial waters of Indonesia, announced Saturday the Indonesian Navy.
These maneuvers, who lasted three days off the island of Sumatra, intervene in a context of regional tensions in the Sea of Southern China, succeeded by the expansionary sights of Beijing.
They are aimed at greater interoperability between the Marines of the ASEAN and Russia member countries, particularly for the safety of shipping and maritime business activities in this strategic sector.
These operations, which took place in two sequences, the one virtual the other marine, involved eight buildings and four appliances of the Marines of Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Brunei.
