Over the course of 2019, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour has traveled across the U.S. and made a stop in Germany for the first time. At the final show of 2019, in Santa Clarita, California, show-goers had the chance to try their hands at changing a NASCAR wheel like the lightning-fast pits crews do on race day, win prizes, build tracks, meet some celebrity guests, and peruse the car show. The cars that showed up to the event were very indicative of SoCal car culture with hot rods, VW products, kustoms, a few muscle cars, and imports. "The Hot Wheels we design, get inspiration from here," said Dmitriy Shakhmatov, Hot Wheels project designer.

The car show was also judged by a mixture of Hot Wheels designers, auto-industry icons, and internet personalities. The car deemed the winner on each stop of the Legends Tour was invited to SEMA 2019 to be featured in the Hot Wheels booth. In Santa Clarita, the judges had a hard time picking just one car and used resident Porsche guru and creator of the outlaw Porsche trend, Magnus Walker, as the swing vote. The car chosen was a homegrown Opel Mantis that looked like it was used as a color tester for a body shop. The Mantis body was grafted onto a Nissan 240sx chassis and powered by a LS V8 that the owner/builder uses as a street/track toy. The build quality and originality was very high, both of which were contributing factors to it being crowned the winner and earning a parking spot at SEMA. Look for this and the other cars at SEMA 2019, and keep an eye out for details about next year's Hot Wheels Legends Tour.

1972 Honda N600 with a motorcycle engine will join Honda's SEMA display It won this year's Honda Super Tuner Legends competitionYes, instead of the N600's standard 600-cc inline two-cylinder engine making less than 50 horsepower, this model is making just over 100 horsepower with its 800-cc V4 engine from a Honda VFR 800. On top of making twice the power, its 12,000-rpm redline is 3,000 rpm higher than the original N600 engine. Making it even more impressive is the fact that the car has been converted to rear-wheel drive. Honda says that the N600's suspension has been replaced by Miata components, which has us wondering if it's also using a Miata transmission and differential.
