2020 Karma Revero GT first drive review: Third time's the charm

2020 Karma Revero GT first drive review: Third time's the charm What was once the Fisker Karma is now the Revero GT, and it's a powerful plug-in sedan that's finally ready for prime time."We call it 'Version 2.0,'" Bob Kruse, Karma's chief technology officer, tells me at the company's headquarters in Irvine, California. Kruse joined Karma in 2017 and is largely responsible for making the Revero GT what it is today. The man certainly knows his stuff; during his tenure at General Motors , Kruse was picked by Bob Lutz to handle the original Chevrolet Volt project. He also spent time developing performance cars like the second-generation Cadillac CTS-V -- you know, the one that sprouted the wagon of automotive journalists' dreams.

The company will debut what it calls the Revero GTS and a followup to the SC1 concept car. The startup said on Thursday it has two big debuts coming to the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show . For LA , it plans to bring a concept called the SC 2 , which is an "evolution of the dramatic" SC1 Vision.

New Toyota e-Racer concept is fun, self-driving two-seater

New Toyota e-Racer concept is fun, self-driving two-seater Concept revealed at Tokyo points to the capacity for autonomous cars to cater to driving enthusiastsThe car was unveiled on stage by Toyota boss Akio Toyota, but no details - including technical or performance - were given about it beyond its name. As such, it is believed to be a concept in the truest sense, pointing merely to the fact that electric vehicles can be fun.

Karma Automotive designs, engineers, and markets luxury electric vehicles, all from its Southern California base of operations. With soul-stirring design and an inimitable presence, the all- new Karma Revero GT is the most elegant luxury electric vehicle ever made.

The standard Revero GT comes with a plug-in hybrid system that involves batteries, electric motors and an internal-combustion engine. While Karma will refer to the car as an electric car, the engine fires up when the batteries run out of juice. From there, the engine powers the electric motors but never actually drives the wheels.

We could see more power from the engine, or perhaps different electric motors to increase power and torque. Yet all of this is just a placeholder, so to speak. Karma wants to actually be totally electric.

It showcased its future with the SC1 Vision concept that debuted earlier this year in China. For LA, it plans to bring a concept called the SC2, which is an "evolution of the dramatic" SC1 Vision. That car was meant to sit as the ideal car in which to cruise down the California coast, with inspiration from racing aircraft from the 1920s and '30s. Honestly, it was a handsome thing and the SC2 may show us something closer to production.
