BMW says the Concept i 4 previews a new design direction for the brand . Powering the concept is an initial version of the electric powertrain that will make its way into the production i 4 . The 80kWH unit is said to produce 523bhp, weigh around 600 kilograms and has a targeted WLTP Combined range of

The BMW Concept 4 that made its debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show didn't win over many fans with its massive kidney grille, and the i4 concept here likely faces a similar challenge. It features an equally large pair of rodentlike teeth up front, but if you glance at the i4 and write it off as another failed piece of BMW design, you'd be missing the point entirely. The Concept i4 is the start of a new chapter for BMW, and in a world that's quickly moving toward electrification, the car is a big deal for one of the automotive world's oldest marques.

Sony Reveals Vision-S Concept, Stakes Claim to Be Part of the Electric-Car Future The electronics company displayed its mastery of 360-degree in-car audio, connectivity, and sensor technology with a surprise prototype electric car. Sony's surprise concept car, the Vision-S, is an EV equipped with 33 sensors—lidar, radar, and cameras—plus 360-degree immersive audio and a panoramic screen stretching across the front dashboard. The point is to showcase Sony's capability for in-car entertainment and cloud technologies inside a vehicle.Sony made no suggestion that the car would go into production.

BMW has revealed its latest EV the Concept i 4 at 2020 Geneva Motor Show replete with a unique electric engine note composed by celebrated musician Hans Another distinctive feature are the wheel rims, designed exclusively for the Concept i 4 to combine aerodynamic and lightweight design.

MotorTrend got an early look at the Concept i4 in January, and when we asked Kai Langer, the head of BMW i Design, about the concept's borderline offensive styling, we were met with a confident smile. BMW's designers know full well what they're doing is going to ruffle a few feathers, but it doesn't bother them at all. Their aim is to push BMW into the future, and they can't do that by catering to those who want every BMW to look like an E28 5 Series. They aren't sorry about the way this car looks.

Speaking of the future, the i4 signals a big shift for the i brand. Instead of making a carbon-fiber hybrid sports car and a little city car, BMW has taken aim squarely at Tesla with its latest concept. The i4 concept's range is 373 miles on the European WLTP cycle (WLTP numbers are more generous than EPA figures, but the long-range Model S has a similar WLTP rating), and BMW says the powertrain makes up to 530 hp. The i4 concept is estimated to do the 0-60 sprint in 4 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 124 mph. Those numbers aren't Taycan Turbo-rivaling, but this isn't a sports car.

Sony Made an Electric Car and It's Like a PlayStation/Tesla Mashup

Sony Made an Electric Car and It's Like a PlayStation/Tesla Mashup Well, this was certainly unexpected. At the moment, details are scarce. Sony hasn't claimed estimated range, power figures, or any of the other numbers that automakers usually use to grab headlines when they announce a new EV. Instead, the Type-S seems to be more of a showcase of what Sony can supply to automakers moving forward.

Oliver Zipse, chief executive officer at BMW AG , discusses the i 4 electric concept vehicle, the impact of coronavirus on the business and the outlook for sales I think being a real BMW doesn't compare to any other brand . And that is where electric mobility actually comes to the heart of our brand of BMW .

The BMW Concept i 4 brings electrification to the core of the BMW brand ,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “The design is

Because the i4 doesn't have a combustion engine to cool, the grille is now what BMW calls the  "intelligence panel," which houses a range of visual sensors. Radar, lidar, and other sensors needed to facilitate autonomous driving reside behind those huge dual kidneys. As cool as that sounds, we worry that this will make a low-speed frontal impact a lot more expensive to repair than it would be on a car without an "intelligence panel."

On the inside, the i4 features a curved screen angled toward the driver—much like what we've already seen in the new Cadillac Escalade. The huge display is connected to the dashboard via small stilts, and it looks as though it's floating on the dash. There are almost no physical buttons on the inside of the i4, and everything is either controlled via the infotainment display or by touch buttons on the steering wheel or in the center stack.

The seats are a combination of vegan leather and microfiber cloth, and the interior is extremely minimalist. BMW said it considered only what was deemed essential when designing the interior of the i4. The air vents match the design of the rest of the car, the iDrive controller is made of crystal (though BMW said that likely won't make production), and the car's bronzed tone is carried over from the outside. Most of the metallic surfaces on the inside match the Frozen Bronze color of the exterior. The car bears some resemblance to the i Vision Dynamics concept of 2017, which was said to preview the i4, but clearly the design has gone through some revisions over the past three years.

FCA Airflow Vision concept greets CES with a futuristic interior

FCA Airflow Vision concept greets CES with a futuristic interior The company says this concept previews "future premium design."There's no brand attached to the design study and the grille simply reads "Airflow" on the front. It's easy to see a little bit of Jeep Grand Cherokee influence in the nose, though the rear is very Aston Martin-like. FCA did share it uses the "dimensions and flat load floor" of a Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid. Perhaps it previews a future Jeep in some way, but all FCA shared was the fact it previews "future premium design." The real story is inside, however.

BMW ’s upcoming i 4 electric saloon has again been shown as a concept , this time as a thinly Among the key design elements on the third model to date from the i sub- brand is a bold kidney Other new design developments incorporated include flush door handles and aerodynamically optimised wheels.

The Concept i 4 also sports BMW ’s new logo, which takes a two-dimensional design in order to make it more suited to digital marketing. Underpinning the i 4 is a modified version of BMW ’s CLAR architecture, which has been given a new rear floorpan in order to house an 80kWh lithium ion battery

As is typical with BMWs these days,  the i4 Concept has three driving modes: Core, Sport, and Efficient. The modes change the way information is displayed to the driver. In Core mode, the widgets are arranged on the instrument cluster and in the infotainment display in a manner that best suits normal driving. In Sport, the widgets rearrange to create a more focused view and display more information about the road ahead. In Efficient, the displays show an "Assisted Driving View" and relays to the driver what the sensors in the "intelligence panel" are seeing.

BMW plans to bring a production version of the concept i4 to life by next year and is in the process of retooling its main plant in Germany to incorporate i4 production. The company has committed to investing more than $200 million in said plant to help jump-start production of the i4. BMW hasn't given an official estimate as to when we might see the production version of the i4 concept, but it's safe to assume it's not too far away.

2021 Volkswagen ID 4 Electric SUV Is the First U.S.-Bound ID Model .
In the rest of the world, the ID 3 will launch VW's ID lineup—here, it'll be the ID 4 crossover. As expected, it appears to be a production-ready version of the ID Crozz concept, and carries over many of its inspirational forebear's styling details, including its swooping shoulder line, militant mug, and wide rear haunches. Noticeably missing, however, is the Crozz's coupe-like roofline. Instead, the ID 4 embraces a more traditional (and surely more practical) wagon shape that ought to improve the crossover's overall cargo room.
