The brand new CUPRA E-Racing Competition 2020 started the new season on Monday in virtual Suzuka. In the first qualifying event, 24 drivers competed in three ten-minute sprint races for a place in the top 6 of the daily standings and thus also for qualification for the grand finale on December 7th. The winner of the championship can look forward to 2,500 euros from the 10,000 euros prize pool.

Christopher Högfeldt prevailed in the first of the three races that are driven with the virtual image of the new CUPRA electric car. Due to the open set-up, the drivers can work on the vehicle settings themselves and adapt their racing car perfectly to their own needs. The Swede managed to do that best, who secured 15 points for first place and three points for pole position.

Adam Pinczes finished second after an efficient energy management and completed the first podium of the season together with Julian Kunze from Germany, who finished third. Bence Banki and Alessandro Ottaviani completed the top 5 behind them and also collected important points.

Since championship points are awarded up to rank ten, Luca Scalari, Matija Markovic, Simone Prete, Norbert Posan and Gergo Baldi could also look forward to the first points in the new season. The Italian Gianmarco Fiduci, who was shot down in the top 10 in the last two minutes, had a lot of bad luck.

Posan wins the second race

For the second race the top 10 of the first race were reversed, which is why Baldi started from pole position. The Hungarian lost four positions at the start, while Posan took the lead. Behind them Prete and Markovic were waiting for their chances to attack at the top. Kunze from Germany settled in sixth after the first corners.

2020 WW Ranch National Motocross 450 Class Race Report Zach Osborne extends point lead with two moto wins in Florida.“It was a solid weekend going 1-1 for the overall,” Osborne said. “I was able to extend my cushion again in the points, so it was exactly what we needed for the stretch run of this championship. I’m looking forward to the last two rounds and finishing it off.

Prete put Posan at the front under considerable pressure and took the lead several times for a few tenths of a second. Posan countered all of the Italian's attacks, defended his first place by all means and thus secured victory in the second race. Prete and Ottaviani rounded off the top 3 and thus the podium.

Baldi and Markovic completed the top 5, while Kunze, Banki, Pinczes, Högfeldt and Martin Barna also scored important points in the top 10. With tenth place in the second race, Barna secured pole position for the third race, while Posan had to start the final run of the evening from tenth place.

Barna wins in the third run

While Barna got off to a good start, Prete fell back to 21st place early after contact with a competitor. For the Italian, the dream of a top 6 result in the last race of the evening fell through. At the top, Barna defended all attacks by Swede Högfeldt, who did not take a great risk in second place.

Högfeldt landed in second place, beating RaceRoom expert Pinczes, who crossed the finish line ahead of Banki, Kunze and Markovic. Baldi was seventh ahead of Ottaviani and Scalari. Posan completed the top 10 behind and got one point.

The provisional top 6 who qualified for the final in Suzuka are Högfeldt, Pinczes, Kunze, Banki, Ottaviani and Posan. Race winner Barna narrowly missed qualifying in seventh place, two points behind Posan. Prete finished eighth ahead of Markovic and Baldi and did not make it into the top 6 of the first event of the new season.

The next qualifying race will take place on November 9th in virtual Shanghai in China. There, too, the top 6 qualify for the final in December. The top 6 from each of the three qualifying races and the top 3 from the two hot lap events meet at the finale in four ten-minute races in virtual Aragon, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and at the Nürburgring, for around 10,000 euros in prize money split up.
