The 2012 Volt has two electric motors and a four-cylinder gasoline engine that feeds the electric motors once the batteries are depleted. Most reviewers said the Volt has plenty of power in most situations and feels much faster than its 149-horsepower rating would suggest. The 2012 Chevy Volt can travel 35 miles on a single charge and gets an EPA-estimated 94 mpg-equivalent in electric mode. When running on gas, the Volt gets an EPA-estimated 35/40 mpg city/highway. Test drivers wrote that the Volt has a comfortable ride, precise steering and feels stable during cornering, with little body lean. However, as with many hybrids, some reviewers complained that the Volt’s regenerative braking system does not operate smoothly.

Reviewers remarked that the 2012 Chevrolet Volt's cabin has lots of premium materials, and they liked its two-tone dashboard and trendy styling. Unlike most hybrids, the Volt only has two rear seats. Critics noted that the front seats are big enough for two tall adults, but they said the back seats don’t have enough leg- or headroom for taller passengers. The Volt also has a smaller cargo area than other hybrid hatchbacks like the 2012 Toyota Prius. Standard features in the 2012 Chevy Volt include a 7-inch touch-screen display, a USB port, Bluetooth, satellite radio, automatic climate control and remote start. Available features include navigation, a rearview camera, leather upholstery and heated front seats. Some critics complained that the Volt’s cabin controls, which include touch-sensitive buttons, are not logically placed, so you have to look away from the road to find them.

Reviewers liked the’ attractive, multi-colored interior design and top-notch cabin build quality. They added that it has spacious front and rear seats with ample headroom for adults.
Like the Volt, you can drive short distances in theon electric power alone, and its gasoline engine greatly extends the available driving range. The Prius Plug-in has a larger cargo area than the Volt and gets much better fuel economy when its gasoline engine is operating.
