There's an All-Original 1970 Plymouth Superbird Headed to Auction This is a rare chance to own muscle car royalty. The Plymouth Superbird is muscle car royalty. When it came out back in 1970 with its aerodynamic nose cone, ridiculous spoiler, and a horn that made the same sound as the famous Road Runner cartoon, it stunned the motoring community. Legend says the whole reason the car was built was to motivate Richard Petty to race for Plymouth again—and it worked.

The original Plymouth Duster is a semi-fastback two-door coupe version of the compact-sized Plymouth Valiant automobile that was marketed by Plymouth in the U.S. from 1970 to 1976 model years.

Danny Ravas knew about this Plymouth Duster, a 340 with a four-speed, 32 years ago. "It was a block away from my mother's, and I spotted it outside," he says. A Mopar enthusiast from way back, Danny inquired about buying the pint-size Plymouth muscle car, which, in 1985, would have been just 13 years old.

Here's What Happened When A Guy Used Wooden Pistons In His Engine

Here's What Happened When A Guy Used Wooden Pistons In His Engine A Russian YouTuber machined four pistons for his VAZ-2106's 1.6-liter inline-four engine, installed them, and tried to run the engine. It goes about as well as you might expect. We’ve probably all heard a variation of the tale of the man who bought a nicely-running used car, drove it around for a few weeks, and then noticed the engine starting to run rough.

The Duster was based on solid and proven Chrysler engineering: unibody construction, front torsion bar suspension, Torqueflite automatic, and, for the Duster 340 , full instrumentation with an optional tachometer. The 340 V-8-powered Duster became a member of the Plymouth Rapid Transit System.

Danny kept after the owner on and off through the years, but the answer was always no. He was building up a collection of Mopar muscle, and this Duster was one of his first acquisitions. "He had hopes of restoring it someday," Danny says.

A few months ago Danny got a call from a friend, Joel, in Atlanta. Joel had just purchased a Superbird from Frank, the owner of the Duster. There was a problem. The carport was in the way of the Superbird's exit. Danny says that various cars "had sat in the garage so long they couldn't get the Superbird out without moving the carport."

Danny is a carpenter by trade. Joel wanted to know if Danny and his crew, busy building a pool house, could spare a few hours to move the old carport. Danny was more than willing to help a friend. He and Joel had both grown up in Upstate New York. Of course, going by Frank's house to do this favor would also give Danny another chance to ask about the Duster 340.

Just thouught i'd take a video of my dad's 1972 Plymouth Duster drag car while he put it back in the garage . It's really loud but the camera doesn't capture it good at all. Sounded much better and louder in person. Originally a 340 but was swapped out to a 360ci small block Chrysler v8 with 13

The conversation picked up where it left off the last time they talked. Danny remembers the conversation went like this:

Frank said, "Let's strike a deal on that Duster."

Danny said, "When you get realistic with your price. Twelve or 15? I could get one for 17 totally done." He showed Frank a picture of one for 17 totally done and said, "Listen, at 15 I'd have to put 15 in it to make it look like this." He pointed to the picture. "I'm not trying to spend 30 to get something I can get for 17."

Frank replied, 'How about five or six grand? You bugged me enough. You bugged me for 30 years."

"How about five?"

"No, how about six?"

"Why did you mention five?"

The deal was done. Danny was very pleased at six grand. He gave Frank $4,500 and paid the rest a week later when Frank dug up the title.

Danny knows he got a good deal. The Duster still wears its original Rallye Red paint. Originally a four-speed, the Duster had been fitted long ago with an automatic for the track, along with a set of 4.88 gears. Rustwise, the body is "rock solid," except for a "little bit" of oxidation on the tail panel.

To build the best, you must seek out the bestThe Z is, rightfully, a perfect choice when it comes to the topic of nostalgia. During its initial release, it was considered an affordable sports car and helped catapult Datsun to its cult status. Daniel purchased his with the intention of restoring it himself—until he quickly realized two things: One, restoring a car isn't as easy as it looks, and two, unlike a new car in which bolt-ons can be purchased and installed with ease, an older Datsun requires more thoughtful attention. "I managed to strip the car down in my garage and got it painted," he says. "But after that, it sat untouched for over a year.
