Would You Pay This Much For A Corvette Body?

Would You Pay This Much For A Corvette Body? This isn’t exactly a budget-friendly deal ...Quite a few people love the look of a classic Chevy Corvette Stingray, and why not? The iconic lines are like nothing you find on any other vehicle around, making it a real standout among other classics. While that’s certainly true, you might be wondering why this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette convertible body is so pricey. At $18,000 for a body that no longer has the original Rally Red paint, it’s understandable why anyone would question the sanity in paying so much.

Now we can't wait until July!

The 1966 Chevrolet Corvette is an iconic body style from one of the most sought after generations of the Corvette. Anytime a C2 Vette is up for grabs, a bidding frenzy tends to follow. When one of those examples has something unique about it, it becomes an even more desirable car to add to a collection. Such is the case with this show stopping 1966 Corvette ‘Big Tank’ optioned beauty, soon to auctioned off by GAA Classic Car Auction.

Originally sold in Higgins, Texas, This blue coupe is one of only 66 ever produced in 1966 with the rare N03, 36 gallon gas tank option. Not only is a 36 gallon tank on a sports car an oddity, but having any little low production option on the car is going to make it more interesting to the collector.

There are some cars that are destined to be special as soon as they come out, and collectors usually know it, and the 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Limited Edition Indy Pace Car is one of those cars. To commemorate the silver and black Corvette that paced the field at the 1978 Indianapolis 500, Chevrolet sold a limited number of pace car replicas. Otherwise, the Corvette underwent a body-off restoration, and it’s only been drive 56 miles since - so this Vette has a lot of road and show time left in it before needing anything else. The power steering and power brakes makes it an easy car to drive. It also rides on a set of Goldline tires.

More importantly, what moves the tires is a numbers matching 427 cubic inch engine that’s rated at 390-horsepower. Backing the big engine is a four-speed manual transmission that feeds into a positive traction rearend with 4.11:1 gearing.

So everything put together, the desirability of this body style, the rarity of the big tank option, the massive 427 engine, and fresh restoration means this car isn’t going to stay on the market for very long. When it goes under the hammer on July 27th, the Saturday run at the upcoming GAA event, we’ll be keeping a close eye on what the winning bid will be!
