First introduced in 1959, the El Camino was Chevy's response to the success of the Ford Ranchero. Although it was late to the party, the El Camino outsold the Ranchero by 20,000 units. The first run only lasted two years, but production resumed again from 1964-1977 and was based on the Chevelle platform. Then, it returned for a third time from 1978-1987, but this time it was given GM's G-Body platform. Basically an El Camino in GMC clothing, the Sprint made its debut in 1971 and shared the same engine and transmission.

SEMA Street Freak 1959 El Camino Rat Rod .
Most would be hard pressed to figure out what car this even started out as, but believe it or not, this 2019 SEMA freak started as a 1959 El Camino. We're fairly sure alcohol was involved heavily in the creation of this whacked-out 1959 El Camino. Yep, what lays before you bares only little dimension resemblance to the big-fin Elky, but that what it was before welders, cutoff wheels, and a whole lot of imagination went to work. Almost like some Hot Wheels die-cast model that was never quite finished, this '59 has a surreal presence.
