Automotive styling was rapidly changing in the mid-'30s and while many hot rodders consider the '32 Ford to be the King, the 1933-1934 Ford is considered by many to be the high-water mark for overall styling. The 1933-1934 Ford fenders were the first to be side skirted (front and rear) to hide the chassis and give a streamlined effect. Speaking of streamlined, the windshield and the grille shell were now laid back on a 20-degree angle and the sweeping heart shape grille was simply elegant. The body hangs down over the frame rail so no splash apron is required and all this rides on a wheelbase 6 inches longer than the 1932 Ford. High style continued inside with tufted seats, and great looking oval gauges.

While the Great Depression was still choking the country, the 1933-1934 Ford had respectable sales figures for the day. All this great looking sheetmetal was not lost on hot rodders. Returning GI's from WWII were quick to scoop up these almost 15-year-old cars and use them as the basis for some great hot rods. While the roadster and coupe were the favorites of hot rodders, the Tudor sedan or "coach" was also popular. As hot rod families grew Tudor sedans became very popular, and during the resurgence of street rodding in the late '60s and '70s the 1933-1934 Ford sedan was very popular.

None of these facts was lost on Tom and Donna Agostino. When the opportunity came to purchase a 1934 Ford sedan that had been damaged in a garage fire, they jumped in to the rescue. The serious rescue effort would require a complete rebuild from the frame up. One of the reasons they purchased the car was the perfect profile. The late Ryan Butler had chopped the top, fabricated a one-piece hood and built the all metal dash, along with other more subtle metal mods. At the time the 1934 was an LS2 powered hot rod, but all of that would change.

Tom knew the team at Divers Street Rods in Sultan, Washington would up to task of bringing this 1934 Ford to new heights. The work began with a new Total Cost Involved chassis that feature IFS up front with a Currie Ford 9-inch out back. Wilwood brakes grab 12-inch rotors on all four corners and QA1 shocks provide a perfectly adjustable ride. Traditional big 'n' little rolling stock consists of Wheel Vintiques wheels measuring 16x7 front and 17x9. Dunlop rubber wraps around the wire wheels (195/55R16 front 255/60R17 rear).

With the chassis up and rolling it was time to switch that Bowtie motor for a totally modern Blue Oval crate motor. To that end a new Coyote 5.0 liter, 32-valve, overhead cam motor was delivered to Divers Street Rods. While many hot rodders would be happy with the stock 460hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque, Tom Agostino had other plans. A fully polished Whipple supercharger was bolted atop the Coyote and a Holley Dominator EFI controls fuel input originating from the Tanks, Inc. fuel tank and pumped by an Aeromotive fuel pump. No doubt the 427-DOHC "Cammer" valve covers are what first catch the eye. Hollywood Hot Rod adapters make the visual disguise possible, team Divers fabricated plug wires from the coil packs to look like vintage plug wires. The ICN/Divers custom breather is mounted toward the firewall and while that is where the air comes in, the spent gases exit through a set of gorgeous polished stainless steel, snake-pit headers (fabricated by Divers) that pass through a pair of stainless steel Magnaflow mufflers.

All this power is passed through 2014 4R70W automatic transmission controlled by a PCS push button selector. Drivelines Northwest fabricated the driveshaft sending power to the Currie TSD nine-inch third member.

All Blown Up: Every Supercharged Car and SUV Available for 2020 As forced induction becomes the norm, supercharging remains outside of it.Supercharging, the other primary form of forced induction, mostly skips the fuel-economy play for raw power, and solves turbos' low-rpm power lag with instant-on air supply for the engine's intake. Both are fun, but there's little else that rivals the punch of a supercharger.

After disassembling and finishing the entire chassis, suspension and motor, attention turned to the body. Much of the Ryan Butler sheet metal work remains and the modifications include a filled and chopped top, one-piece front fenders and running boards. The guys at Divers engineered and fabricated the assembly to allow the rear window to roll completely down. Divers' own Rich Thayer spent untold hours arriving at the perfect fit and finish before laying down the mile-deep PPG Black Cherry paint. Final assembly included stock headlights up front, while the bumpers and horns have been eliminated for a clean look. Out back shortened stanchions carry stock taillights.

The next challenge was to design and fabricate an interior to the same high level as the rest of the car. The all steel dashboard is filled with Classic Instruments and Vintage Air cools the cabin. The American Autowire harness makes all the right connections and the ididit column mounts the Budnik steering wheel. Scott Divers designed and stitched the Douglass Leather for the seats and door panels, while German Velour carpet covers the floor and a gray silk headliner is found overhead. Speaking of overhead, you'll find a console there and a second beautifully sculpted console connecting the floor to dash while also surrounding the shifter.

And so, Tom and Donna Agostino had taken a great looking albeit damaged hot rod and made it better in every way. Response to the car has been strong, with the car finishing as a Goodguys Top Five this year at Del Mar, California. Appreciation for the car runs strong among fellow enthusiasts so we thought we'd leave you with a one of the Agostino's favorite quotes from people viewing the Tudor "If Bonny and Clyde had this car they'd still be on the run." Classic split-window looks with late-model reliability. The 1963 split-window coupe is the most recognizable – and perhaps desirable – of all Corvette body styles, so it's no surprise this iconic design is often imitated. To even the casual automobile enthusiast, there's no pretending that this 2011 Chevrolet Corvette is actually a legit '63 split-window, but this custom creation is still a high-quality Corvette that will get plenty of looks on the street or at the car show.
