Die Linke continued its digital federal party conference on Saturday, at which a new party leadership is to be elected. The Hessian parliamentary group leader Janine Wissler and the Thuringian state and parliamentary group chairwoman Susanne Hennig-Wellsow apply for the two chairman posts.
After almost nine years in office, the chairman duo made up of Bernd Riexinger and Katja Kipping will not run again. The party's regulations provide for a maximum term of eight years. On Friday, in his farewell speech as party leader, Riexinger called for the fight for social justice, which is more necessary than ever in the Corona crisis. Kipping appealed to her party to open up to possible government participation.
