Three Names Trademarked by Polaris that Never Came to Be

Three Names Trademarked by Polaris that Never Came to Be There's a good chance these were supposed to be Victory motorcycles that will never see the light of day.Right now we’re seeing bike brands unveil their 2018 lineups, but for the aforementioned reason, Victory will have no such unveiling. According to Motorcycle.com, Polaris had three names they trademarked or tried to trademark, but haven’t been turned into real models. All three sure sound like names that belong on Victory motorcycles, so let’s speculate what they could have been.

Just a few weeks ago, we reported on Harley-Davidson trademarking the name “Bronx” and speculated a possible new model in the works. Since then, two more names have been trademarked by the Milwaukee-based motorcycle brand that have us wondering if another brand revamp is in the works.

I say “another” because Harley just gave a big makeover to its big twin lineup. It ditched the Dyna series and created an all-new Softail lineup for the 2018 model year with eight new or refreshed bikes. With a bunch of newly trademarked names in play, we’re wondering if something similar is about to happen to the aging Sportster lineup.

The new names that have been trademarked are “Pan America” and “48X”. The name 48X reminds us of the existing Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight which is a bobber-style Sportster with a low seat and fat tires. Perhaps the 48X will be a high-performance version of the Forty-Eight with upgraded brakes and suspension or even just a Forty-Eight with a different aesthetic. Making a Bonneville Bobber Black in addition to the Bonneville Bobber worked very well for Triumph, perhaps Harley is taking a page out of the British brand’s playbook.

Watch This Fool Stunt Down the Highway on a Big Old Harley-Davidson Shenanigans can happen on any bike.According to KSLA News, Monica Rochefort spotted the daredevil rider on I-10 just east of New Orleans on Monday. He appears to be riding a Harley-Davidson Street Glide, a big old bagger of a bike that isn't usually the top choice for stunting fools. In the video, Rochefort sounds understandably shocked to see him booking it down the left lane while leaning back and reclining like he's on a beach chair, his hands nowhere near the handlebars.

What the Harley-Davidson Pan America could be is anyone’s guess. Our shot in the dark is some sort of touring version of a Sportster. Sportsters are traditionally, well, sporty, but maybe there’s room for a Sportster made for long-distance comfort with a comfy seat, lots of storage, and maybe even a standard front fairing. The Sportster has never been a great bike for bringing a passenger; perhaps the Pan America will change that.

Of course, this is all speculation and nothing we’re saying here has been confirmed by Harley-Davidson. For now, we have to hurry up and wait for an official announcement about the new names. What do you think the 48X and Pan America could be?

How Might Trump Tariffs Impact The Price Of An American-Made Motorcycle? .
The recent announcement that imports of steel will pay a 25 percent duty and those of aluminum 10 percent has been greeted by a storm of proofs that this is or is not a good thing. More important are the responses from the markets. The Dow, which is easily upset by any change, took a significant dive. Stocks of domestic steel and aluminum manufacturers rose on expectation that the tariffs (in effect a limited ban on foreign price competition) will trigger price increases and more profitable operation. Stocks of automakers and others dependent upon price competition in metals nosed over.
