AST Lieutenant, Brian Wassmann, says that the three main things to remember are visibility, defensive driving, and protective gear.

For protective gear, he recommends leather or other motorcycle specific clothing... and he suggests always wearing a helmet.

Wassmann also said that visibility is a big issue because drivers often do not see motorcycles. He said being aware of this is an important step to staying safe.

"Motorcycles are harder to see then cars and trucks on the roadway so drivers need to be aware of that and practice defensive driving, and just be safe out there knowing that other drivers might not see them as well, so reflective gear is helpful," Wassmann said.

Wassmann also said that there might be times motorcycle riders need to let someone else go, even if they have the right-of-way.
