The Most Significant "Debuts" of the Canceled 2020 Geneva Auto Show
Coronavirus fears shut down the show, but automakers debuted these viral rides anyway.But even without a physical venue, the show must—and did—go on. Many new cars that were set to make their debut at the Geneva auto show were still revealed digitally online, and some automakers even put on virtual press conferences live-streamed to the web. Geneva has historically been the show where automakers debut their fastest, most exclusive, most high-tech, [insert any other relevant superlatives here] new production models and concept cars, and this year's remote event was no exception.
FactoryOne Sherco’swon this year’s Tough Like RORR extreme enduro race in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, topping local rider Ryder LeBlond by nearly eight minutes at the end of two laps of a rough and rocky 15-mile course. Rockstar Energy Racing’s led about three-fourths of the opening lap, but dropped out of the race on the second and final lap due to heat exhaustion. Webb commented on his battle with Haaker and the course itself at the conclusion of the race.
“It was definitely pretty tough,” Webb said. “That first lap I was up there and I was thinking this could definitely be harder than I thought. But two-thirds of the way through that second lap I was kind of like, ‘I understand now.’ It started kind of just dragging down on you. There are endless rocks. That first lap, I was riding with Colton [Haaker] there for the huge majority of it. We were having just a really hot pace. I kind of just let him run his pace there, hoping it would wear him out. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t. But I was making a lot of mistakes when I was behind him. That second lap I just kind of rode my own race and felt way better even though a little more fatigued. I was trying to conserve energy when he was leading and we were going fast. That’s when I just started making dumb mistakes. I almost went over the bars, jumped off the bike a couple times. I only had one little tip-over on the second lap. It was fun. It definitely wears you down and I was kind of afraid that first lap how hard we were pushing if I was going to make it or not, but once I got a gap on Colton, I just pushed really hard for the whole rest of that lap and about half that second lap, just put a charge on to get ahead and cruised it into the finish.”

Western Pennsylvania rider Ryder LeBlond admitted he rides in rocky conditions all the time since he lives in the area, but no one expected him to come away with second against the talented lineup at this year’s event.
“I was surprised because I thought I was behind Cody [Webb] and Colton [Haaker] the whole race, but I guess something happened to [Haaker],” the 18-year-old LeBlond remarked. “I didn’t really have too many struggles, actually. I didn’t get the best start because people had their bikes on and they were turning them on and off; it was kind of messing me up. Then when I went to go, I felt like I was pretty close to last. Somewhere halfway through the first lap I got into third and just stayed there the rest of the race.”

“I really had to come back from a deep hole,” Commo explained. “The second race on Saturday I pushed as hard as I could and ended up sixth, so that put me on the second row. In the final, I was third on my row going into the woods and passed those guys pretty quick. Then I tried to reel in the front group as quick as I could so I could try and just kind of hang with them. I quickly realized my pace that I could run comfortably was faster than [Nick] Fahringer and [Max] Gerston. I was like, ‘Okay, so I’ve got to get around these guys.’ Then I just kind of settled in and rode the rest of the day as smooth as I could.”
just missed the podium in fourth. The EnduroCross specialist has been expanding his horizons recently, racing an extreme event in South America this past winter.
“The first lap, I had a decent start and I made just a couple stupid mistakes, just classic rookie mistakes,” Gerston noted. “I was still able to regroup and keep going pretty good. I actually wasted a lot of energy on the first lap. I was taking bad lines and that just cost me a lot of energy more than anything else. So then coming through the second lap I kind of regrouped and I rode better. Made an effort to hit my marks, hit my lines, and just keep moving forward [and] use my proper technique. I had a little cramping on that second lap, but it kind of came and went and I was just trying to breathe through it. I just kept pushing forward. Fahringer and I kept bowing out on the last lap. That kind of kept me pushing forward.”

, a former and Husaberg factory rider and National Enduro winner, notched a fifth place result, which was impressive considering the FactoryOne Sherco pilot only rides part-time now. Last year, Fahringer finished second at the event on a four-stroke, but this year, he rode a Sherco 300 two-stroke.
“Ironically, last year I did really well on the four-stroke here, but this year we also had I think a lot more competition,” Fahringer remarked. “The Sherco 300 was working good today. Yesterday, I had some setup changes going into the qualifying and [in the] first moto I just was not clicking, so I reverted to stuff I had been more accustomed to. Things felt magical yesterday afternoon. I had a stellar qualifying time in the second moto. In the final, I got a good start. I was riding with Cody [Webb] for probably a solid 10, 15 minutes. I think that was a mistake because I wasn’t able to maintain that. I got pumped up. It just kind of shocked my system. I spent more than half the race trying to recover from doing that, and then just chugging through the rocks in the heat. The second lap went a lot better and I started battling with Max [Gerston]. I looped my bike out and it hit him at one point. He got up and my body cramped, so I was laying there in the rocks trying to rub on my leg and just get my leg moving. So we just kind of chased each other the last lap, which made it fun. I’m disappointed to not have charged the whole race. It’s hard to hit every nail right on the head to perform at an event like this, but everything worked flawless. I stayed off the ground, stayed safe, and still had fun. Fifth is fair among the pros being a weekend warrior now.”

I think that’s what was holding me back and I started hitting them really well. It was a tight race and the whole race it seemed like a lot of pressure between us all because we weren’t making many mistakes. I’m sure it was a fun race for the fans to watch and it was a fun race to win, for sure.
