A Self-Balancing Harley-Davidson?

A Self-Balancing Harley-Davidson? A Self-Balancing Harley-Davidson?Some criticism of Harley has been ill-deserved—after all, despite the company’s staid reputation it’s a leading light in some areas of technology, including electric bikes—but it’s also clear that the type of heavyweight cruisers and tourers making up a big slice of the firm’s profit margins have problems appealing to novices, and aren’t easy practice for the oldest of motorcyclists. Their sheer size and weight, which is part of their attraction for some, mean they can be hard to handle, particularly at low, maneuvering speeds.

The Long Way Up series will have its global premiere on September 18 on the Apple TV+ platform. Three episodes will be released simultaneously, with a new episode following each week. If you can’t wait that long and you want to get some LiveWire action in immediately, check out my review video

Long Way Up is an upcoming television series documenting a motorcycle journey undertaken in 2019 by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman

More than a decade after their last globe-trotting sortie, Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman have reunited for yet another two-wheeled adventure, and yes (of course), it’s been made into a miniseries. The first three episodes of the new Apple Original series, dubbed Long Way Up will be hitting Apple TV+ on Friday, September 18.

The 11-part production will have episodes rolling out weekly, every Friday, but in the meantime, we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for Long Way Up, which you can watch here.

Harley-Davidson's gyroscope patent app would help new riders not drop their bikes

Harley-Davidson's gyroscope patent app would help new riders not drop their bikes The system would fit inside a top case and be easily removable from the motorcycle.Harley-Davidson -- makers of definitely-not-lightweight motorcycles -- believes that it has a solution to this and it's kind of ingenious. According to Cycle World, Harley filed a patent application for a type of gyroscope that would work at very low speeds to keep the bike upright and make the bike a little easier to sling up when dropped.

The latest season of The Long Way Up appears to have wrapped filming after Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman – together with their ADV-spec Harley -Davidson LiveWire motorcycles – were spotted at their final destination in the L.A following three months on the road.

So what’s it about? In a nutshell, Long Way Up reunites McGregor and Boorman in what’s being called “their most challenging expedition to date,” navigating 13,000 miles over 100 days from Ushuaia at the tip of South America to Los Angeles. The bigger challenge is that the duo travel that immense distance on modified electric Harley-Davidson LiveWires. Now, our sister publication Cycle World has tested the LiveWire and even taking Harley’s estimate of a 95-mile range (combined stop and go) between charges for the model, you just know this had to have been one extremely challenging journey given the less-developed environment it’s in, bike modifications or not.

The press release says the expedition used “cutting-edge technology” to travel through 16 border crossings and 13 countries, with the duo’s longtime collaborators, directors David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, following along in the first two electric Rivian trucks ever made. Guess we’ll have to watch to see what that tech is, but we do know that Long Way Up was created and executive produced by McGregor, Boorman, Alexanian, and Malkin.

Harley LiveWire Sets Top-Speed Record .
Milwaukee’s EV breaks elapsed time and speed marks for an electric bike. When sister pub Cycle World tested the Harley-Davidson LiveWire a few months back, we all could confirm the near instantaneous torque delivery and power output on the dyno charts. Their real-world testing also proved the 'Wire was a ripper on the road, clocking a quarter-mile run in 11.54 seconds at a speed of 110 mph. And now Harley has reported even faster results, announcing that the LiveWire set all-new records for elapsed time and top speed by an electric-powered production motorcycle on a drag racing course last week.
