At the comeback in Jerez, Melandri made a strong showing, made it into the top 10 and announced further improvements. But from Portimao it went downhill. The Italian, who was spoiled for success, also followed suit in Aragon and finally said goodbye to the Superbike World Championship.

It is not clear who will drive the Barni Team's Ducati from Barcelona. The best chances are given to Samuele Cavelieri, who drives for Barni in the Italian championship and is currently second in the drivers' standings behind ex-WSBK driver Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia).

Ducati officially announced its plans to make the bike last September, confirming it to be an addition to the Multistrada range rather than a replacement for either the 950cc or 1,260cc V-twin models.
