Motorcycles Johann Zarco is looking for even more lightness on the Ducati in Qatar
Johann Zarco: Like Jorge Lorenzo before his Ducati breakthrough?
© Motorsport Images Is Johann Zarco about to make a big breakthrough at Ducati? With excellent performances at Avintia, Johann Zarco recommended himself for the Ducati-internal promotion to the Pramac team this year. In the MotoGP season 2021, the Frenchman is driving a current Desmosedici and is aiming for consistently strong results. Zarco's development at Ducati is reminiscent of the path that Jorge Lorenzo took in the 2017 season.
Johann Zarco finished the first two days of the MotoGP test in Qatar as the second best Ducati rider in sixth place 0.416 seconds behind the fastest time of(Petronas-Yamaha). For Zarco it was the first outing with the current Desmosedici GP21 in Pramac colors.
"I'm happy that I was able to drive pretty fast. The speed is there," said the Frenchman. "Still, I have to be able to really gain confidence in my ability to have that speed and therefore relax so I can work on other things like race pace."
He still lacks the ease to drive all laps like this, says the Pramac driver. "I think it's possible. It's easier said than done, but it's clear that I'm almost back to where I left off last year and that was my goal."
Ducati Ebike Lineup Coming to America 2021
On- and off-road Ducati ebike options will be available.“The introduction of these ebikes continues the Ducati tradition of creating exhilarating two-wheeled experiences and expands our product range into a growing segment,” said Jason Chinnock, chief executive officer of Ducati North America, in a company press release. “In addition to highlighting the connection between the world of cycling and the training regime of motorcycle racers the world over, including many of those on the Ducati Corse team, we’re looking forward to seeing our existing clients and those new to Ducati enjoy these new ebikes, which are also part of a growing recreational segment.
Zarco's goal: to be as good as Jack Miller 2020
Last year - his first season on a Ducati - Zarco was still part of the Avintia team and has already celebrated some notable successes such as pole position and third place in Brno. He wants to build on this in 2021 with the latest factory material: "My goal is to be at least as good as Miller finished last season."
On the first two days of testing in Qatar, he mainly concentrated on working on his driving style, continues Zarco. "In the end it didn't go badly, but I think there is room for improvement on my part in order to focus more on the characteristics of the Ducati," he admits self-critically.
"That's what Jack does. He's a little more instinctive because he's been on the bike for a while and he has a more instinctive style so he feels things well. But I think I did what I could to help to get back into the rhythm and if I improve from that it can get very interesting. "
Johann Zarco believes: This is why Tito Rabat failed in MotoGP
© Motorsport Images Tito Rabat has to leave MotoGP after five years Tito Rabat has to say goodbye to the Grand Prix paddock and is moving to the Superbike World Championship in 2021 . There the Spaniard will start with a private Ducati from the Barni team. Rabat became Moto2 World Champion in 2014, but never made a breakthrough in the premier class. In 2016 and 2017, Rabat drove a Honda. This was followed by three years with Ducati.
Ducati even more involved at Pramac
The new aerodynamics,, he has not yet tested, reveals Zarco. "It's true that Miller was on the road with it. It's something completely different, but I didn't have the time to see it up close," said the Frenchman.
"If it is confirmed by the official team, Pramac usually benefits very quickly from it. But then you have to have time to build two of them for each driver. If I also benefit from it, that's six panels that have to be made. So it's not that easy for the plant. "
The support from Ducati is generally very high at Pramac: "Between Avintia and Pramac, for example, I notice the fact that Gigi Dall'Igna is there more often," Zarco draws the comparison. "He came to Avintia because I think he liked my feedback, but it was closer to the end of the day."Work towards races on the next test
"Now he's here at the end of each run. And he has one less pit to run. (Laughs) It's the same treatment." Therefore, the Pramac driver is confident that he can take the next step necessary to be on the podium.
For the remaining test days in Qatar, Zarco decided to run a racing simulation. "We haven't talked about when we're going to do it yet. I think in order to have good energy it is better not to do it on the third day because there can be a little bit of fatigue," he says.
Thedriver knows: "It's not just about a lap time, I also have to make it in the race. But the speed is there and that's a very good thing. If I feel even more comfortable on the bike, it won't help me go much faster, but it will help me be much more consistent. "
Jorge Lorenzo: "Driving style of Vinales fits more about Ducati and Honda" .
Jorge Lorenzo recognizes at Vinales weaknesses compared to Yamaha colleague Quartararo - on the other side he dares Ducati with Bagnaia the World Cup title to Maverick Vinales Stand Qatar as a rejubated start-up winner of the MotoGP season 2021 on the podium. Since then, the Spaniard has been overshadowed by his Yamaha team-colleague Fabio Quartararo, which is new in the team. Quartararo won in Doha and Portimao.
