Harley-Davidson introduced the KR in 1953 in response to the increase of competition from UK brands like Triumph or BSA after post WWII reduction in import duties. The technology found on the import off-road bikes elevated the entire section if they wanted to compete, and KR was developed by Harley-Davidson to compete in the Class C racing. Examples like this 1953 Harley-Davidson KR represent the kickoff of the model.
