Honda is recalling 106,000 of the 2017-2019 Ridgeline pickup trucks because sulfuric acid in car-wash detergents can result in a fuel leak, which in turn raises the potential of a fire.

The automaker says it will inspect the fuel pump and replace it if needed. Honda urges owners to take their truck to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification, which they say they will begin mailing in early March 2019.

Honda says it has received no reports of fires, crashes, or injuries related to this issue.

Your fuel pump and fuel lines need to be inspected for cracks and leaks as well. Has anyone figured out yet, whether every Ridgeline ever built will at least get the cap/cover, and every future build from approx 1/29/19 forward will get the cover?

I tried with a good fuel pump relay, and still no go. Im a mechanic my self, so i know what to check when it comes to no start issues , but in this case i jumped into a conclusion that i have a bad ECM after all the check that I've done.

The Details

Vehicles involved: 106,683 of the 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline pickup trucks.

The problem: Car-wash detergents containing sulfuric acid could drain from the bed and seep into the fuel pump’s fuel feed port. If the acid isn't fully rinsed off, it could crack the port, resulting in a fuel leak. A leak such as that could lead to a fire, Honda says.

The fix: Dealers will inspect the fuel pump and, if needed, replace it at no charge to owners.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners can go to Honda’s website or call Honda at 888-234-2138. Honda says it will begin notifying affected owners by mail starting in early March 2019.

NHTSA campaign number: There is no campaign number from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yet for this recall.
