Renault is still looking for a team-mate for Esteban Ocon in the 2021 Formula 1 season. If the French are concerned, he would like to drive alongside Fernando Alonso, who is already a hot candidate in Enstone. The Spaniard is considered a difficult team-mate, but Ocon has "a fantastic relationship with Fernando", as he says.
The two-time world champion was also the only driver with whom he exchanged the helmet. Alonso had done this with numerous colleagues before leaving Formula One - including Ocon. Where his "affection" for Alonso comes from is also clear: "Back then it was his fights with Michael (Schumacher) that gave me my love of sport."
Daniel Ricciardo: F1 season with ten races would be "legitimate"
© Motorsport Images Daniel Ricciardo sees the world championship status with ten races upwards not in danger The new Formula 1 calendar for the 2020 season has only been scheduled for the first eight Grands Prix in Europe. But if Liberty Media's plans go, it should be increased to 18 races. It is still unclear whether this number will be reached - and if so, with which routes. Currently there is also an expansion of the European tour in the room.
It remains to be seen whether Alonso will really come back to Renault. "Maybe we should talk about it later," laughs Ocon when asked if team boss Cyril Abiteboul knows what he thinks. But one thing Ocon knows exactly: "If he came back, I would definitely be very happy."
Daniel Ricciardo's teammate with Lando Norris is certain for 2021, but he is still asked about Alonso and whether he would prefer to drive next to the Spaniard or next to Sebastian Vettel, who also has no cockpit for 2021.
"I would only say Alonso because I don't know that yet," he replies. Because you can learn something new from every teammate - and he already knows Vettel from the time they spent together at Red Bull. "So I would say Fernando - on the other hand, I only had twelve months with Seb. That passed pretty quickly, so I wouldn't say no to that either. "
