IIHS: Deaths by Red Light Runners up 17 Percent From 2012

IIHS: Deaths by Red Light Runners up 17 Percent From 2012 The IIHS and other safety groups have banded together to call for increased use of red light cameras. The four organizations have outlined a "red light camera checklist" which they hope will encourage re-adoption of red light camera systems. Focus is centered on planning and maintaining programs, but also deals with public relations, as the IIHS contends that public support for red light camera programs is strong, as long as drivers believe the cameras are to discourage crashes, and not to rake in revenue.

The Sedan Is Not Dead

The Sedan Is Not Dead Sedans that are poorly executed are dead .Still, the numbers don't lie. Are we seeing a genuine psychographic shift or just a temporary anomaly? Family sedans are currently seen as dowdy dad cars, while SUVs give marketers a chance to position buyers as adventurers and survivalists (from the original Nissan Xterra "Fly Away" and "Voodoo Child" ads to the current VW Tiguan "Meteor" spot). But let's be clear: The modern, car-based SUV is merely a butch minivan. It has more to do with calming fears than emboldening drivers.

Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban: 8,600 Pounds

How the $100,000 Pickup Came to Be

How the $100,000 Pickup Came to Be Pickup trucks are hotter than ever, and as their popularity rises, so do their prices. So why do people keep buying them instead of more affordable sedans?Fast-forward to 2015, when I bought a new GMC Yukon XL Denali for a bit over $70,000. New Tahoes can be close to $70,000 now, Yukons even more. What is happening here? Is it just too much? Will customers revolt? What are manufacturers thinking? Truth is that pricing has been skewed to the products the public wants. Product planners have to marry two totally different portfolios: The first is a lineup that will trigger lust in the buying public.

Ford Expedition/Expedition Max: 9,300 Pounds

a car parked on the side of a road © Motor Trend Staff

With a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds, Ford's new Expedition is the towing champ of SUVs and crossovers. The 375-hp, 470-lb-ft 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 powerplant backed by a 10-speed automatic provides the pulling power, and that can be increased to 400 hp and 480 lb-ft in the Platinum trim. The longer-wheelbase Max model is rated at 9,000 pounds. Like the Navigator, the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package and two-wheel drive are required for maximum capacity.
