A collision between a truck and a coach has killed at least 37 people and injured at least 15 others Wednesday in southeastern Brazil, military police said.

The bus, which was carrying workers from a textile factory, collided violently with the truck for reasons yet to be determined, shortly before 7 a.m. near the city of Taguai, in the state of Sao Paulo.

Rescue operations continued at the end of the morning. "We know there are dead in the wreckage of vehicles but we don't know how many," a military police spokesperson said.

An initial report had initially reported 32 killed. According to local press reports, about 53 people were in the bus and the driver of the truck is believed to be safe.
