It is news that will shake Honda fans worldwide to the core: The Japanese electronics company Stanley Electric is discontinuing its Raybrig lightbulb brand, ending sponsorship of the Kunimitsu Super GT team after almost a quarter of a century. This goes hand in hand with the end of an integral part of the Super GT: The Raybrig Honda.

The Honda NSX-GT GT500 will compete for the last time in the Super GT finals next weekend under the name "Raybrig-NSX". In Japan, the vehicles are officially identified via their main sponsor, who often remains loyal to a team for several decades.

Not often I post a race against A.I. but this race was perfect and I really wanted to get a clean race to show off the mod. To see the same mod in iRacing

The connection between Stanley Electric and Kunimitsu Takahashi goes back to 1996, when the Raybrig lettering first graced a Honda NSX at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since 1997, the dark blue Honda NSX have been used in the then All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), which was renamed "Super GT" in 2005.

The Raybrig NSX achieved worldwide fame as an integral part of the console title Gran Turismo. The vehicle has been featured in every part of the Gran Turismo range since 2001. The blue bolide also has numerous trailers in the RC car sector (remote-controlled vehicle models).

Team Kunimitsu won the driver's title in the Super GT in 2018 through Jenson Button and Naoki Yamamoto. This year there is an almost epic battle for the title in the GT500 with nine vehicles that still have realistic title chances. Yamamoto and his current teammate Tadasuke Makino are also part of this fight.

Takahashi plans to announce at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January how things will continue with the Kunimitsu team. Stanley Electric's withdrawal comes at an inopportune time for the team as it falls in the middle of the COVID-19-related economic crisis.

Another legendary vehicle, however, continues to exist: the Calsonic Nissan GT-R of the Impul team survived a takeover of the automotive supplier Calsonic Kansei by Magneti Marelli in 2019. The Italians decided to keep the brand.
