SANTE-CORONAVIRUS-ASTRAZENECA-VACCINE: AstraZeneca confident of being able to increase its production in the second quarter, according to its CEO
LONDON (Reuters) - AstraZeneca Managing Director Pascal Soriot said Thursday he was confident in the pharmaceutical group's ability to increase production yields of its COVID vaccine in the second quarter in order to increase its deliveries to the European Union, which were drastically reduced in the first quarter.
Pascal Soriot said AstraZeneca plans to deliver doses from its international network, including to the United States, in order to be able to supply the volumes initially agreed in its contract signed last year with the EU.
AstraZeneca's chief executive also confirmed to MEPs that the group "will do everything possible to deliver 40 million doses" of its vaccine to the EU by the end of March, less than half of the quantity initially promised (90 million doses).
