Wadi Ad-Dawasir (SID) - Audi is getting better in the 44th Rally Dakar, but with the overall victory but nothing more have to do. On Wednesday, the German manufacturers with his hybrid cars already celebrated the third day victory and the second double success. Dakar record champion Stephane Peterhansel (France) won the 10th stage over 374 valuation kilometers from Wadi Ad-Dawasir to Bisha in front of his brand colleague Carlos Sainz (Spain).

In addition to the well-known vehicle # 4 by Patric Niederhauser and Jusuf Owega, another Audi R8 LMS GT3 will be used with the # 5 in the same design. Driver: Salman Owega and Mattia Drudi.

Nasser Al-Attiyah (Qatar) contributes to his fourth overall victory. The Toyota pilot was only seventh on Wednesday and lost 1:25 minutes on his first purse Sebastien Loeb (Prodrive). But the lead in the overall class is still 32:40 minutes, the Rally Dakar ends after two other stages already next Friday. The drivers are then covered more than 8000 kilometers through Saudi Arabia, where Dakar takes place for the third time in a row.

Audi is in very prominent cast this year and with a new concept at the start. In addition to title defending Peterhansel (14 Dakar Total Vegea) and Sainz (3), the former DTM champion Mattias Ekström (Sweden) is sitting at the wheel of a RS Q e-tron.

This is powered by electric motors, which has already used Audi in a very similar form in Formula E. However, because the battery capacity for the long Dakar stages would not be sufficient, a four-cylinder turbo from the DTM proven four-cylinder turbo generates further energy for the electrical units.

Peterhansel, Sainz and Ekström have now won a stage, through great time losses in the initial phase of the rally, they are already far back in the overall class.
