It’s no secret that wedding planning is hard work. One bride in the U.K. became so focused on the task, however that she up and quit her job, expecting her fiancé to pick up the slack!

In a post originally shared to a bridal Facebook group and later reshared to Reddit, the woman explains that her upcoming wedding is causing some strife between her and the groom-to-be.

“HELP I NEED ADVICE,” she began. “My fiancé and I are having lots of issues right now, we can’t stop fighting and I don’t know what to do. I quit my job because wedding planning was taking up so much time, and my fiancé is refusing to get a second job.”

The woman went on to say that though she has been attempting to find work that allows her to be at home, where she can simultaneously work on their impending nuptials, it’s been slow-going.

“He doesn’t understand that I don’t have time to get ready for work, drive to work, be somewhere else all day, and drive home. I need to be HOME to plan this wedding,” she complained.

According to the bride, the bills for the ceremony were quickly adding up, however, making a second income imperative. “It really pisses me off because we are spending $80,000 on this wedding and he keeps saying that we should spend less,” she wrote. “UH, HELLO, NO. This is MY wedding I have been dreaming of since I was little and I REFUSE to have anything but my dream wedding.”

She closed her post with a plea for suggestions on how to make her betrothed see the light. “What happened to ‘Happy wife, happy life????????????’” she lamented.

Instead, she was largely met by a slew of appalled commenters who advised her future spouse to rethink his marriage.

“This isn't just a red flag. This is a strobe light with a few fog horns attached to it,” one write, with another chiming, “Life isn't a fairytale. A wedding shouldn't be about leaving your income behind and harassing your fiancé to work like a slave so you can impress people for a day. He still wants to marry you despite that because he just needs to honor the meaning and yet you act like it's a betrayal. How pathetic. The poor dude deserves better.”

Some didn’t understand how the bride could possibly be that consumed with prep. “I never been that involved in wedding planning but… How it can take so much time that you can't work?” they commented “Sure, you need some day off, sometimes, but not being able to held even a part-time job? I feel it is highly unreasonable. And I am not even able to imagine how the time can be spent.”

Many more found her financial expectations to be unreasonable. “Yeah I'd be calling this off. Going into debt because of a wedding is insane,” wrote one.

“Happy wife, happy life? More like crippling debt, noose around the neck...” agreed a second.

The one piece advice she received came from a commenter suggesting the woman try a sales job. “Have you considered being your own Boss Babe and selling Avon, Lipsence, Amway or Airbonne?” the person wrote.

At least one was sympathetic to the bride’s longstanding dream of having the perfect wedding day, though they too ultimately sided with the groom: “I understand that a wedding is what women dream of having they picture their day being perfect. But as people focus on the wedding they leave the most important part out they do not focus on the marriage."
