What kind of sausage is best?

I personally like to use pork breakfast sausage for these sausage balls but you can use your favorite sausage! Pretty much any ground pork sausage works well! Italian sausage adds a delicious flavor to this classic recipe. You can use hot sausage if you like a bit more spice! Turkey sausage can be used if you prefer a leaner option but the end result will be a little drier. If you can find bulk sausage you can use sausage links with the casing removed.

What dip should I serve with these?

Yes! These are a quick appetizer to make and have ready ahead of time! You can store them fully cooked in an air tight container for about 5 days so they are great for making for parties or gatherings. Just heat them up in the microwave or oven before serving.

To freeze these sausage balls-

After forming the balls and placing on a large baking sheet, place the uncooked sausage balls in the freezer until frozen. Then put the frozen balls in an airtight container or freezer bag in the freezer. When you are ready to cook them you can remove them from the freezer, defrost, and bake according to the package directions. Or place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes at 350.

2 Cups Bisquick

1/4 Cup of Milk

1/2 tsp Garlic Powder

1 Tbsp Fresh Chives

Here’s how to make these classic Bisquick sausage balls

Preheat your oven to 350 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Shred cheese using a grater or food processor.

Place the shredded cheese, garlic powder, chives and sausage in a large bowl and mix until well incorporated. The best way to do this is with a wooden spoon. If you prefer to use a mixer place the ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.

Add in the Bisquick to the sausage mixture and continue mixing. Add milk gradually, only adding enough to make the mixture easy to mix and so that there is no dry Bisquick.
