Earlier this year, all eyes were on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the lead-up to their May wedding. Lucky for any Royal Family fans, there's another Royal Wedding coming up, and it's sure to be just as gorgeous-if not quite as big of a spectacle as Prince Harry's big day. Naturally, the two weddings are already drawing comparisons.
As Princess Eugenie, Harry and William's cousin, prepares to marry Jack Brooksbank, the Palace has been releasing details bit by bit, as they did with the last wedding. While we already knew both weddings would happen at St. George's Chapel, we now know what cake Eugenie chose-and it sounds like she may have taken some inspo from Meghan.
11 Ways Meghan Markle's Fashion Has Changed to Adhere to Royal Protocol
The final word on tailoring, tank tops, and why we'll likely never see her toes again.Despite reports that Meghan has broken protocol for showing her shoulders or this or that, Myka Meier, Beaumont Etiquette's founder/director and a British-American trained by a former member of the Queen's household, told ELLE.com that Markle actually hasn't ever broken royal etiquette. “She’s doing a fantastic job," Meier said. "People sensationalize and make stories about the smallest movements when really, she’s done amazingly. Where she’s in just one year is pretty incredible.

As a refresher, Harry and Meghan had a lemon elderflower cake decorated with buttercream and fresh flowers at their wedding. Here's what it looked like:
The wedding cake is to be served at the Reception. It was designed by Claire Ptak and features elderflower syrup made at The Queen’s residence in Sandringham from the estate’s own elderflower trees, as well as a light sponge cake uniquely formulated for the couple. #royalweddingpic.twitter.com/kt5lE4tEn9

Princess Eugenie veered away from a traditional fruitcake, too, and picked a red velvet and chocolate cake. The palace called it "a traditional cake, with a modern feel. It will incorporate the rich colors of autumn in its design and will be covered with detailed sugar work including ivy."

Despite choosing very different flavor profiles, both cakes are reflective of the season during which the wedding is (or was) held. Elderflowers are in bloom in May and June, while Eugenie's cake, as noted, is inspired by the fall. Both brides also chose a local baker: London based cake designer Sophie Cabot will make Princess Eugenie's cake, while East London's Violet Baker made Meghan's.
The royal wedding will take place this Friday, October 12, and will be televised on TLC starting at 4:35 a.m. EST (with an encore at 7:25 a.m., thankfully).
