Remember beef stroganoff? A staple of suburban dinner parties in the 1950s, this American classic (with Russian origins) is a family-pleasing weeknight dinner when made with a beautifully cooked strip steak and a simple, creamy mushroom sauce. (No cream of mushroom soup in our version.) Plus, if you sear off an extra steak at the same time, you'll set yourself up for a super-easy grain bowl later in the week.

To fill out the rest of the meal plan, you'll make a sheet-pan supper of Asian-inspired chicken meatballs with broccoli, a meatball frittata to use up the leftovers, and a gorgeously simple pasta dish to close out the week.

This is Taco Bell’s most expensive box deal ever

This is Taco Bell’s most expensive box deal ever When you hit the Taco Bell drive-thru, you probably aren’t expecting to spend more than $5 — whether you’re ordering the recently-returned-to-menus Nacho Fries or something from the value menu that has tons of grub for $1. But that might change now that Taco Bell is testing out its most expensive box deal yet. The new item is called the Double Steak Melt Deluxe Box, and it comes with a (relatively) whopping $7 price tag. For that price customers receive a folded flat bread topped with double the amount of Taco Bell’s marinated steak that you would get on a regular item and a ton of melted cheese.

MONDAY: Sheet-Pan Chicken Meatballs and Charred Broccoli with Brown Rice

First things first: Cook a double batch of brown rice according to package directions—later you’ll refrigerate the extra for Thursday. The great thing about meatballs is how versatile they are. This particular recipe is made with ground chicken, ginger, and sesame oil, which will add an extra hit of flavor to Wednesday night's frittata. To make sure you have enough, make a double batch of just the meatballs tonight. Don’t brush that second sheet pan of meatballs with the glaze tonight; instead, after baking, cool and then refrigerate for Wednesday.

TUESDAY: Steak Stroganoff with Noodles

This weeknight version of the classic stew comes together quickly thanks to pan-seared steak instead of long-simmering beef. You’re cooking an extra steak tonight—if your skillet is large enough, you can cook both at the same time. Refrigerate the spare for Thursday’s grain bowls. Note that the mushroom sauce here calls for a smidge of brandy, which cooks down considerably. If you’re uncomfortable serving it to kids, substitute unsalted beef or chicken broth.

Weekly Meal Plan: Chicken Meatballs, Double-Duty Steak, and Brown Butter Pasta© Photo by Sarah Flotard There may be no better way to stretch odds and ends around the kitchen than to make a frittata: there’s no crust to fuss with, the eggy matrix can handle almost any savory inclusions, and the frittata itself can be enjoyed hot or at room temperature. We have a regular movie night with our friends, and I often serve meatballs, since grown-ups and kids like them with equal verve. I always make extra meatballs, in part because they taste even better the next day. Last time we slurped spaghetti and watched some Hitchcock, I got thinking about a meatball- studded frittata. The next day I whipped up my vision and loved how the pockets of mozzarella puffed and bubbled dramatically. See recipe.

WEDNESDAY: Meatball Frittata with a Green Salad

Those Asian-ish meatballs detour to Italy tonight (we promise, it works!). Use half the meatballs you set aside on Monday night; freeze the rest for another time or repurpose in tomorrow's lunches. Once the frittata hits the oven, toss together a salad of lettuce, more of the basil leaves, the remaining grape or cherry tomatoes, and sliced cucumber. Dress with extra-virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, and salt and pepper.

THURSDAY: Brown Rice Bowls with Corn, Steak, and Avocado

Tonight's dinner is make-your-own grain bowls. To start, take the brown rice and cooked steak you set aside earlier in the week out of the fridge. Slice the meat thinly (this is easier while it’s cold) and let everything come to room temp while you prep the rest of the ingredients. Heat a bit of olive oil in a large heavy skillet, preferably cast-iron, over medium-high heat and add 2 cups of the frozen corn (yes, still frozen) and a bit of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the corn develops a bit of char. Transfer to a large bowl and add 2 cups of brown rice, 1/2 cup crumbled feta, a few chopped scallions, the juice of one lime, and a glug or two of olive oil, plus salt and pepper to taste. Now make a quick green sauce: In a good processor, purée 1 cup of yogurt, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 Tbsp. of lemon juice, 1 cup of basil and dill leaves, a hearty pinch of salt, and a few grinds of pepper until smooth. To serve, set out the sliced steak and grain salad separately, plus a thinly sliced avocado and the green sauce, and let everyone assemble their own bowls.

Weekly Meal Plan: Chicken Meatballs, Double-Duty Steak, and Brown Butter Pasta© Photo by Nicole Franzen This pasta dish comes together quickly and easily, but doesn’t fall short on flavor. Fragrant sage combines with butter and Parmesan to create a luscious sauce, which complements the crunchy broccolini. We prefer to use broccolini because it is sweeter, but feel free to substitute any type of broccoli. See recipe.

FRIDAY: Cavatappi with Broccolini, Brown Butter, and Sage

Crispy fried sage leaves and nutty brown butter make a simple pasta dish memorable—if you’ve never tried browning butter before, you’re in for a treat. If your kids are wary of spicy foods, leave the red pepper flakes out of the sauce and pass it at the table instead.
