Artists Imagine Military Food Rations As They'd Be Plated at a Fancy Restaurant

Artists Imagine Military Food Rations As They'd Be Plated at a Fancy Restaurant Diced pears, instant cappucino powder, and "beverage based lemonade" may not sound like things you'd find on the menu at a world-renowned, fine dining establishment. That's because you wouldn't. They're military combat rations. And, unsurprisingly, they're so unappetizing, they've reportedly been nicknamed "meals rejected by everyone." But for Chuck George, Jimmy Pham, and food artist Henry Hargreaves, the MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) items provided to soldiers in the field of duty were worthy of a visual elevation. They decided to plate them, along with many other military food staples from countries around the world, as if they were being served at a Michelin-rated restaurauntgorgeous ceramic plates and all. In a behind-the-scenes video, the artists are seen tearing opens unsightly ration packets, pulling out everything from canned meat to powdered drinks. They then get to work slicing, dicing, and sautéeing the food before carefully plating it so that the food looks like it's of the highest quality, ready to be eaten by a diner at a fancy restaurant. Plain crackers and small cubes of cheddar are transformed into an impressive cheese board, and a plain-looking white sauce is drip-painted, Jackson Pollock style, across a black plate. This isn't Hargreave's first food art experiment.

Tonight in Paris, President Trump and first lady Melania ascended the city’s most famous landmark for a very fancy meal: The pair joined French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte for dinner at the restaurant Le Jules Verne inside the Eiffel Tower.

Dinner here is typically a prix-fixe affair clocking in around $250 per person, but it’s safe to assume the Trumps weren’t presented with a bill at the end of this meal. Here they are being shown to their flower-strewn table by none other than legendary chef Alain Ducasse, who presides over the one-Michelin-star restaurant:

Fast food junkies aren’t predominantly poor, most come from the middle class

Fast food junkies aren’t predominantly poor, most come from the middle class The myth that those in a lower socio-economic class eat more unhealthy food than others has been disproved by a new study.OK, for the thousandth time: Eating fast food is not good for you. There is no real redeeming value to the mass-processed food besides that it’s quick and cheap to buy—and because of that most people derisively associate it with lower-class people.

Trump's Odd Diet Likely Complicates Overseas Trip

Trump's Odd Diet Likely Complicates Overseas Trip President Donald Trump eats like a 6-foot-plus, 240-pound petulant child. How is he going to survive state dinners overseas? He's set to embark on his first official trip overseas Friday with pit stops in Saudi Arabia, Israel, Belgium, Italy and the Vatican—something he's reportedly pouting about, huffing and puffing that the nine-day excursion is far too long. Worse yet: none of the places he's visiting have a Trump-branded hotel with workers that are duty-bound and practiced at serving him his favorite meals.

  • Selection of pate
  • Tomato, eggplant, zucchini
  • Dover sole, spinach, Hollandaise
  • Filet of beef, brioche with foie, souffle potato, truffle sauce
  • Warm strawberry with yogurt sorbet
  • Hot chocolate souffle with chocolate ice cream

As anyone who’s dined in Paris may know, it can be awfully difficult to convince French chefs to prepare beef well-done — but presumably what the leader of the free world wants, he gets, at least where thoroughly overcooked meat is concerned. Ducasse may have drawn the line at serving said steak with ketchup, however.
