17 Italian Cookies You Can Make Without a Nonna to Teach You How

17 Italian Cookies You Can Make Without a Nonna to Teach You How I’m not Italian, and I'm still waiting to go to Italy. I can’t share my favorite Italian wine bar to tuck away in or make you feel like you’re standing in an Italian market. I wouldn’t know the first thing about navigating the country and I don’t know how to cook a steak half as good as the ones that are served in Florence. But one thing I do know is cookies—and Italy has some of the finest. Unfussy, traditional, and always just the right amount of sweet, Italian cookies of any sort never fail to to end a meal (or start a day) on the perfect note. Make these 17 Italian cookie recipes to dunk into your coffee—you don't even need to travel to Italy to learn how.

In my very early twenties, I went shopping with a roommate who was looking for a dress she could wear to other people’s birthdays. It couldn’t be too flashy or too colorful, because she didn’t want to be the center of attention—she wanted something neutral but cute, something that would look good in photos but not take anything away from her girlfriends on their special days.

25 S’mores Recipes That Take the Original to a Whole New Level

25 S’mores Recipes That Take the Original to a Whole New Level Summer is prime s'more season, but it's time to update the classic. That's why this year, we're reaching for these 25 s'mores recipes that turn the O.G. on its head.

I thought she was being a little silly, honestly. But her neutral dress policy crosses my mind every so often, including last weekend, when I was asked to bring a dessert to an event that I knew would have a showstopper of a cake from a guest of honor. Whatever I brought needed to be good, but it also needed to play second fiddle to the real star.

What’s a dessert that just gets the job done? Cookies, I figured, so I considered chocolate chip, peanut butter, snickerdoodle—and even party snickerdoodle. I obsessed over these pistachio thumbprints but didn’t want to make (or buy) pistachio paste. Finally I landed on these tahini cookies, slightly bitter and not too sweet, topped with toasted sesame seeds. They are eggless and pantry staple-heavy, come together in one bowl, and bake up like a dream, plus they taste amazing without being too fancy. Make them next time you want a tray of cookies to snack on all weekend, anytime you have a little extra tahini, or if you need to fulfill a highly specific potluck request like I did.

Girl Scouts are stuck with 15 million boxes of unsold cookies after an unusually slow season .
Around 12 million unsold boxes remain with two bakers, while another three million boxes are with Girl Scout councils, AP reported. "This is unfortunate, but given this is a girl-driven program and the majority of cookies are sold in-person, it was to be expected," Kelly Parisi, a spokeswoman for Girl Scouts of the USA, told AP. Representatives for Girl Scouts of the USA did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.Little Brownie Bakers Kentucky and ABC Bakers may donate or sell to places like food banks or the military since they can't directly sell to grocers, AP reported.
