  • Rebel Wilson recently lost 60 pounds—but she says her transformation wasn’t for looks.
  • “It’s just about loving yourself and loving the journey that you’re on,” the Pitch Perfect actress said in a recent interview. “The women I think are most beautiful are those who step into their own power.”
  • Wilson, 41, still isn’t used to all the attention on her appearance, but she understands why people are “so obsessed” with her weight loss.

Rebel Wilson’s recent 60-plus-pound weight loss has been the subject of much discussion—and now, she’s speaking up about why she started her wellness journey in the first place.

Rebel Wilson, 41, Maintains Her 77-Lb. Weight Loss By Taking It Easier

Rebel Wilson, 41, Maintains Her 77-Lb. Weight Loss By Taking It Easier “It's really about enjoying exercise and physical activity."Exactly one year ago, Rebel celebrated the milestone of reaching her goal weight—a month earlier than she anticipated. To date, she’s now lost more than 77 pounds, far exceeding her original goal of getting to 165 pounds. And she’s seen drastic improvements in her health because of it.

In a recent interview with Australia’s The Daily Telegraph, the Isn’t It Romantic actress, 41, set the record straight about her weight loss. “It’s not about being a certain size or body weight or anything,” she explained. “It’s just about loving yourself and loving the journey that you’re on. And to me, the women I think are most beautiful are those who step into their own power.”

Despite all the positives brought on by her new health- and wellness-focused lifestyle—including the sense that she’s unleashed her “inner siren”—Wilson expressed some frustration at all the attention focused on her appearance. “In 2019, I had, like, four movies come out, two which I produced and one, Jojo Rabbit, which got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture,” she said. “Yet I get more press the following year when I do nothing except lose weight.”

“People are so obsessed with it,” Wilson continued. “But I get it. Oprah is one of my heroes. She’s certainly struggled with eating issues, and I would always watch her episodes when she spoke about that.”

Wilson, who portrayed the character Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect film series, kicked off what she called her“Year of Health” in 2020, when she announced on social media that she was aiming to lose 60 pounds. As she shared tips (including the power of walking) with her fans and followers, she also encouraged them to take their health into their own hands alongside her.

Now, her weight loss has led people to treat her differently. “I liked to think I looked good at all sizes,” Wilson said in February. “And I’ve always been quite confident, so it’s not like I wasn’t confident and now I’m super-confident.”

“What’s been interesting is how people treat you. Sometimes being bigger, people didn’t necessarily look twice at you,” she continued. “Now that I’m in good shape, people offer to carry my groceries to the car and hold doors open for [me].”

Wilson is the latest public figure to join a growing chorus of voices speaking out against the intense focus on the appearances of celebrities. Last week, Jonah Hill asked fans to stop making comments about his body, positive or negative. The week before, Adele opened up about her weight loss, saying, “The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body.... That hurt my feelings.”

Aside from the world’s fixation on her weight, the actress is happy she went on her wellness journey. “For the first time in my life, I’ve lost weight and maintained it,” Wilson continued in The Daily Telegraph. “I’m more proud of that fact. It worked because it was the whole lifestyle approach and dealing with emotional eating. I’m not totally cured. I don’t think you can be. But I’ve learned to manage it—and it’s not by reaching for a bowl of ice cream.”
