6 Unique Foods to Bring to a Party

6 Unique Foods to Bring to a Party Because there are way tastier options than that plastic clam-shell package of pre-cut veggies.Level up ye olde onion-soup-and-sour-cream concoction and show up at the party with the mega umami flavor bomb known as spicy eggplant and tomato dip from Lisa Kitahara of Okonomi Kitchen. After you make it, be sure to keep it covered and well refrigerated, and add color and crunch by serving it with sliced raw vegetables. Bonus: It’s so colorful, it pretty much doubles as a centerpiece on the table...until it disappears and gets gobbled up.

Ingredients in fundido . Cheeses– Queso Fundido is typically made with Asadero, Chihuahua, Manchego and Oaxaca cheeses. Chunks of Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack and white cheddar are my favorites since most of the Mexican cheeses are hard to source outside of Mexico. Feel free to use any cheese that melts well. Cutting the cheese into cubes as opposed to shredding cuts down the amount of oil that’s released. As a result, the cheese holds together better and doesn’t separate. Fresh Chorizo– Mexican chorizo is different from Spanish chorizo.

Queso fundido is the epitome of an antojo. What we Mexicans call a food craving that can be eaten anytime of day as a quick snack, or a full meal if eaten in a big enough amount. When I make queso at home, I like to make a combo of my favorite toppings. No one can stop me and no one should stop you! My take combines caramelized onions and poblano chiles, throws in a bit of seeded and diced tomato for an added juicy bite and tons of crisp chunks of flavorful chorizo.

Queso fundido is a true party trick. It’s likely the lowest effort, highest reward party dip. It’s always a crowd pleaser, and it’s endlessly adaptable. Do a mix of Monterey, cheddar, manchego, or mozzarella. Basically any of your favorite melty cheeses will work well here. The chorizo is traditional and adds a little heat. Go for the Mexican variety here instead of the Spanish, which is usually dried. Mexican chorizo can be found both cooked and uncooked. We used a pre-cooked version here, but if you can only find uncooked that is fine! Remove it from its casing and start the same by cooking it until cooked through, breaking the meat up with a wooden spoon as you cook.

Queso Fundido is the more flavorful, dynamic, addicting cousin of queso or cheese fondue. It is an appetizer of hot melted cheese and spicy chorizo that is often served flambé at restaurants. This classic Mexican appetizer is less creamy and thicker than queso or fondue because it is mostly cheese with little or no added liquid.
