Researchers collected the urine samples of 1,228 healthy Chinese residents (613 males and 615 females) between the ages of 2 and 90 and found that two urinary molecules—8-oxodGsn and 8-oxoGsn—were able to “reflect the oxidative state of the whole body rather than a specific organ,” thereby making these molecules “promising biomarkers of aging.”

“A simple, rapid, sensitive and reliable methodology for the analysis of urinary excretion of 8-oxoGsn and 8-oxodGsn was developed,” the study said. “Based on this large population study, we concluded that 8-oxoGsn in urine may be a novel way to evaluate the aging process in adults.”
