3 Ways to Enjoy Drinking Alcohol Without Getting Fat
While we certainly won't bash boozing with the boys, there is a way to do so intelligently—and so it won't undo all the work you did in the gym.Keep the following in mind before your night out:

An international study has identified the hormone responsible for acting on our brain and stimulating thirst as a response to alcohol and sugar.
A study of mice in Texas and human beings in Europe revealed why alcohol and sugar make us thirsty. The findings of the study were published in the journal Cell Metabolism on April 12.
Researchers from the University of Texas (UT Southwestern) found the hormone FGF21 played the role of an anti-dehydration mechanism by acting on the brain to increase the desire to drink water. This was said to happen in response to specific nutrient stresses that lead to dehydration.
Americans binge 17 billion drinks a year, CDC says
A new report has some striking findings on who's most likely to binge on alcohol.Binge drinking is defined as consuming five or more alcoholic beverages for men, or four or more drinks for women, within about two hours.
Alcohol is essentially a toxin, which is not to say I’m not OK with moderate social drinking. Alcohol makes the kidneys stop absorbing water. When the kidneys do not reabsorb as much water Which is why you pee a lot after consuming excessive amounts of alcohol , and because of that u feel thirsty .
Why does drinking alcohol or consuming sugar make us thirsty ? An international study of mice in Texas and humans in Europe reveals an unexpected anti-dehydration mechanism. In a study published today in Cell Metabolism, UT Southwestern researchers identify a hormone that acts on the brain to
"We knew that exposure to alcohol or sugar turns on production of FGF21 in the liver. What we now show is that this hormone then travels in the blood to a specific part of the brain, the hypothalamus, to stimulate thirst, thereby preventing dehydration,"Dr. Steven Kliewer, Professor of Molecular Biology and Pharmacology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. "Unexpectedly, FGF21 works through a new pathway that is independent of the classical renin-angiotensin-aldosterone thirst pathway in the kidneys."
The FGF21 hormone is primarily secreted by the liver. This week, found a particular variation of the gene was not only responsible for inducing sugar cravings but was also linked to lower body fat.
In the mouse study, researchers conducted an experiment with regular mice and rodents that were genetically unable to produce FGF21. When they were given ketogenic diet (high in fat and low in carbohydrates), the hormone could stimulate water-drinking in regular mice. But the rodents genetically unable to produce FGF21 failed to increase water intake in response to the nutritional stress.
Working Out? Here's Why You Should Swap That Sports Drink for a Banana
Bananas are better than sports drinks at helping athletes fight post-workout inflammation.Say you've spent few hours running around under the hot sun during a soccer game, or put in a hard session at the gym, and now you're thirsty. There's a good chance your go-to drink isn't water, but a high-calorie, brightly-colored sports drink packed with electrolytes and sugar.
Feelings of thirst can be mistaken for feelings of hunger. If you’re always hungry, it may be helpful to drink a glass or two of water to find out if you are To ensure you’re properly hydrated, simply drink water when you feel thirsty . Eating lots of water-rich foods, including fruits and vegetables, will also
We ’ve all felt it — that drowsy feeling that sneaks in after a meal. You’re full and relaxed and Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar ) may occur due to consuming simple carbohydrates that are limiting or avoiding alcohol . modulating caffeine consumption . eating foods that are good for your gut, blood
Meanwhile, 21 people from the Medical University of Graz in Austria were recruited for the human study. The participants were randomly assigned to drink only juice or a mixture of alcohol and juice. Over a period of four hours, researchers measured the levels of FGF21 in their blood. The participants who consumed the alcohol-juice mixture saw their FGF21 levels peak at around two hours and decline afterward.
"This suggests that FGF21 might someday be used as a drug to limit alcohol consumption and protect against its effects in people," said Dr. David Mangelsdorf, Chair of Pharmacology, Professor of Pharmacology and Biochemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He added that the hormone appears to be regulated similarly in both human beings and mice.
To stimulate thirst, FGF21 traveled in the blood to a region of the brain known as the hypothalamus. Thirst induced by the hormone seemed to depend on a signaling pathway known as the β-adrenergic circuit, the researchers stated. They added this study may introduce a new perspective to metabolic research, which has generally examined feeding behavior as opposed to hydration.
All You Need to Know About Homemade Wine
Homemade wine is both daunting, concerning and intriguing.
When you consume sweet foods, sugar enters the bloodstream and begins to circulate through the body, according to Indiana Public Media’s “A If you feel thirsty immediately after eating something sweet, that’s an artifact of the act of eating itself, possibly influenced by sugar ’s hygroscopic nature.
Print. 3 reasons you might feel sick after eating sugar . If you usually feel sick after eating sugary foods, chances are it's no coincidence. So how could sugar be affecting your body? And how might you counter the ill effects of the sweets you consume ? Here's some helpful advice. Possible symptoms.
"To put this in context, we always look at food intake, and the metabolic field has spent comparatively little time studying water intake," Dr. Kliewer stated. "This study suggests that we should think more about hydration and how it might contribute to metabolism."
