Now here is a health tip that everyone can get behind. When 100-year- old San Francisco resident Matilda Curcia was asked about how she'd managed Emma Morano, who held the title of the world' s oldest person at 117 years old until she passed away, accredited her longevity to two things: her diet

Now, a new study published in the Journal of Neuroimaging says that the ancient art of Tai Chi has unexpected physical and psychological benefits in the elderly. Using magnetic resonance spectroscopy, researchers measured brain and muscle chemistry in 6 older adults enrolled in a 12-week Tai Chi program. What they found was that the practice significantly increased the brain’s metabolism and improved recovery rates in leg muscles.

While the sample size was small, the implications are potentially big. “The benefits of Tai Chi have been well known anecdotally; however recent research such as our study can quantify these improvements using objective measures,” said senior author Dr. Alexander Lin, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

This Is Why You Should Sleep with Your Feet Outside the Covers

This Is Why You Should Sleep with Your Feet Outside the Covers Keeping your feet uncovered while you sleep does more than keep those toes from overheating: it might just be the key to a better night's rest. There are two types of people in this world: people who sleep with their feet covered by a blanket, and people who think the members of the aforementioned group are monsters, or—at the very least—misinformed. Like meditation, it uses focus techniques to foster mental calm and clarity. Unlike meditation, however, it also aids the muscles and provides physical stress relief. Since it also teaches you some basic combat stances, and involves more movement, it’s an especially nice option for people who want to meditate but find it a little bit boring.

Previous studies have shown the ancient martial arts practice to have numerous benefits for seniors, such as improving balance and flexibility and lowering blood pressure. Another recent study, published in Chest, found that it can be as effective as traditional medical treatment to ease a number of respiratory diseases. So if you haven’t tried Tai Chi before, now might be a good time to start.

I Stopped Drinking Sparkling Water For 1 Full Week, and These Were the Results I love bubbly water to the moon and back, but the effects on my body from drinking less (or none at all) were overall positive. On average, I go through anywhere from two to five cans of LaCroix per day at work, then head home to sip from the bottle of San Pellegrino I keep in the fridge. I love bubbly water to the moon and back, and cutting it out of my life is akin to taking away sweets from a sugar addict. However, I have chronic stomach problems (I have my whole life). More recently, they have resulted in extreme bloating that lasts for days or even weeks.
