Earlier this year, fitness and nutrition YouTuber Alex Garfeh challenged himself to do 50 pullups every single day for a month and tracked his progress as he began to see results in his arms and back. In his latest video, Garfeh set himself the task of doing 100 pushups for 30 days, to see what kind of impact it would have on building out his chest.

"The pushup exercise primarily targets your chest, your shoulders and your triceps, so these are the areas I expect to see some improvement in over the next 30 days," he says. In addition to performing pushup reps with a standard grip, Garfeh introduces some variations throughout the challenge in order to ease the pressure on his wrists and provide different muscle stimuli.

During his pullup challenge, Garfeh had to push through an intense period of tightness in his muscles at the beginning, but his experience of the pushups is a little better: "I'm pretty surprised; no soreness in my arms, shoulders or chest," he says on Day 5. However, he does acknowledge that doing 100 daily reps without a rest day will put a lot of strain on the front part of the shoulders, and advises working out the back part of the shoulders using some simple resistance band exercises to balance it out.

At the start of the month, Garfeh was maxing out at 20 reps, but by the end of the 30 days his endurance has improved to the point that he is able to do 31 consecutive pushups with good form before needing a break.

"I'm stoked that I can do it faster, my stamina doing the pushups got way better," he says.
